Yale hears a Hu

When Hu Jintao spoke at Yale, it was a an historic moment. In his first trip to the U.S., he made his only academic speech in New Haven, Connecticut. It was the first time a speech by a Chinese head of state was broadcast live back to China. I jumped at the chance to be in the audience - to cover the leader of the world's largest nation. Surely, you say, there I have fascinating tales from behind the scenes.

We Got Decked

When the warm season arrives, the pace may slow a bit, but the weather keeps rolling along. I was on the weather deck early last evening. The breeze was picking up over the water, and then suddenly, the wind increased to 30 to 40 mph, white caps covered the sound, and dark clouds rolled across the eastern sky. The chairs on the deck were picked up and blown across to the railings. We were decked. And all of that was occurring on a day that had every appearance of being peaceful, sunny and unsually mild for mid-April. The weather always keeps us on our toes. Even when the weather is quiet, it can become too much so.

What Stops A Non-Stop Newscast?
