Citizen's arrest, anyone?

Posted by Tina Detelj on October 23rd, 2007 at 04:27:50 pm, 402 views

I haven't heard this term in a long time nor have I ever known of anyone actually making a citizen's arrest. Although there are plenty of times I'd like to do so. Not so much for any serious crimes which I have no business even getting involved in. Those are times when you dial 9-1-1 and leave it up to the professionals.

Should Federal Labor Law Cover Casino Workers?

Posted by Mark Davis on October 22nd, 2007 at 03:36:41 pm, 2918 views

Of the more than 10-thousand employees at Foxwoods... it is the most visible... the approximately 3-thousand dealers of table games that are attempting to organize with the United Auto Workers union.

The Mashantucket Pequot tribe has argued before the National Labor Relations Board at Hartford that federal labor law does not apply because the tribe is a sovereign nation. They have their own Labor board which should have jurisdiction over any labor disputes.

Today, a number of political leaders, from the U.S. Congress to the state legislature said they support the workers right to organize with the U-A-W. Attorney General Dick Blumenthal filed a brief in favor of the workers saying a federal decision in a case involving a California tribe's casino workers applies here.

Casino workers at today's event said they have been harrassed by casino management because of their organizational efforts. A spokesman from the tribe denies any harrassement and says they are just trying to make their point that a union is not necessary.

Do you think federal labor law should apply at the tribe owned casinos? Or do you agree with the tribe that their laws apply?

This October...Is Winter all Over?

Posted by Dr. Mel on October 22nd, 2007 at 10:15:02 am, 2357 views

You might think that this record-warm October is about to melt away any prospects for a normal snow season. Is it time to trade in those tickets to Florida? But for snow lovers, even if it will be an uphill battle, all is not lost....yet. I looked back at some weather records, and the shoe, the snow shoe could eventually drop....but start dreaming of that White Christmas now.

Thank you Firefighters!

Posted by Sara Welch on October 21st, 2007 at 09:00:41 pm, 452 views

Governor Rell has declared today Firefighter day in Connecticut. It's a day to honor the men and women who devote their lives to keeping us safe. This afternoon, families, friends and of course firefighters took part in an annual memorial service at the Connecticut State Firefighter's Memorial in Windsor Locks. The ceremony today honors all lives lost including the three latest names added to the list of heros on the wall. They include Joe Pagano of Middletown, John Keane of Waterbury and Thomas Langan of Winsted. The three men lost their lives in the line of duty and were rememdered with a bells and a wreath laying ceremony. We aired a story about today's events... you can check it out on our website at WTNH.com. Governor Rell mentioned during her speech that a simple thank you to a firefighter means so much. Thank you firefighters for all you do to and for putting your lives on the line for us. Feel free to tell us about a firefighter you are proud of.... Sara

A Game Seven!

Posted by Marc Robbins on October 21st, 2007 at 10:39:08 am, 433 views

It's a wonderful time when you have a Game Seven in a Sports playoff series.

You intensity rises as both sides feel desperation and that fear of ending a season of hard work and success with a loss.

Too bad the Red Sox and Indians begin so late on a school-night that many of our children, including mine can't enjoy the full experience.
