It's beginning to look a lot like Xmas
Every day on wtnh.com and on News Channel 8 we pose a question to our viewers to get their take about what's going on in the news. The poll question can cover anything from whether or not you will get a swine flu vaccine to what airport you fly out of. And today's poll question has really got me fired up!
Here it is: Do you put up a holiday tree or a Christmas tree?
There are two things that bother me about this question. One: It's OCTOBER. It is waaaaay to early to even think about Christmas, Hanukkah, or Kwanza. For God's sake, I haven't even handed out Snickers yet for Halloween!
But okay, the reason we are asking this question is because the city of New Haven is cutting down a tree today in Shelton that will be erected on the New Haven Green. Guess what they're calling it? The New Haven Holiday Tree.
That leads me to my second issue - What exactly is a holiday tree? If it is put up around Christmas and has lights and decorations on it, it is a CHRISTMAS tree - period. Enough already with the political correctness.
I can't wait to hear your thoughts...
Oh, and Merry Christmas!

And yes I am passionate about this. We need to take a stand. They've been trying to eliminate it for too long.
As far as the "Holiday Tree or Christmas Tree".........it was a "christmas tree" as long as I can remember ( I am 58...) and it STILL is.........SCREW the political "correctness" of it all......
It is just another way to discriminate against the only thing that is acceptable to discriminate and that is Christianity!! It's always this select minority that is making all the rules for the unwilling majority. We need to take a stand!
Personally, I don't want to have anything to do with Christmas until the day after Thanksgiving at the earliest! It has become, sadly, so crassly commercialized it's sickening! >:-(
Well, it seems to be getting closer and closer to what I've been saying for a while, now, namely, that it won't belong before they start putting up the Christmas decorations on July 5! Then we'll be saying, "What? Christmas already?!?! Didn't we just have our Fourth of July picnic???"

i have to agree, day after thanksgiving suits me just fine,,they are not giving the kids anything to look forward to these days,i remember when my mom didnt start till the after thanksgiving and i kept that tradition,,let's get through halloween first geesh people
CHRISTMAS, CHRISTMAS. I'LL SAY IT AGAIN
CHRISTMAS.
2. I think if the kind family in Shelton who donated this tree knew ahead of time it wouldn't be called a Christmas tree, they would have given it a second thought. I wonder what their take is on it? Maybe WTNH could do an investigation and ask people out on the street what they think of New Haven's uber-PC actions.
3. Last but not least, I think everyone should send a Christmas Card to the City of New Haven this year reminding the Mayor and his staff what holiday most of us are really celebrating on the 25th of December.
Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night!
I start thinking about Christmas in December.
I hate political correctness.
I hate that my rights have been taken away by outsiders.
It isn`t Passover, tho a tree was involved in that holy day,not holiday.
Cursed is he who hangs on a tree.
We got the blessings.
This isn`t the birth of Christ it is the conception(begotton)Light enters the world (solicetoo)A holiday is a vacation too,you know to some folk.
In the book of Hosea God is decribed as an evergreen.
If no one gets all huffy and puffy and wanting to blow someones house down over halloween, thanksgiving, easter, passover,
labordy memorildy, veteransday, then why cant the little children have St.Nick and a tree an a nativity.
There is nothng wrong with a visual for a history lesson,Jesus wasn`t a criminal,thief,murderer.
His philosiphy changed the calander, and fed the children,do`nt tell me no,in his name I have done many good deeds,if not for Christ I may have been a sour grape.

Have YOU been living in a damn bubble over the last 2 decades??????? Or just BLIND............
1. Playing xmas music in public is under fire
2. Just what this article is about is another reason
3. Trying to abolish "crosses"
4. "Merry Christmas" is under fire
5. Its not a "Christmas vacation" anymore...its just a "holiday"
And what gets me most of the FEW who are tryin to change it will whine like schoolgirls if you take away the "holiday" pay and "time off"...hypocrites.........
you cannot appease EVERYONE...and this country really doesnt have to...we have OUR traditions JUST as much of the rest of world...........
If they are THAT offended...then that ship or trunk of a car they came here on also goes in the opposite direction......get on it.....
I always say Merry Christmas, not Happy Holidays.
Christians are rooted from Abrahams wife Saras son Issack, who begot Esau and Jacob the twins who were seperated and Jacobs name was changed to Israel, who begot Judah and Levi(and ten other sons)12tribes of Isral, who later down the royal line begot King of the jews David who later down the line begot Mary the Mother of Jesus.
The older brother hates the younger brother just like Cain and Able.
Ishmaels decendants and Issacks decendants were the inspiration for all the wars in the Bible and if you want to kid yourself, don`t belive it is still going on to this day, even tho the Arabic(Muslim) religious folk want to kill Jews(Israel).America and Great Britian are decendant of Josephs sons Ephrium and Manassah as they were reciving the blessing on the fathers death bed he crosses his arms and the blessing went to the younger son,as did ith the twins Esau and Manassah.
This is why the language of Great Britian and america are the same.
If you were born in Great Britian or America and speak english, consider yourself blessed,by the blessing that was given ages ago.Great Britian and America are the brothers Manassah and Ephrium.
We have our rites to freedom of religion and speech, don`t like it,u-haul yourself over the boarder in mexico and speak mexican and try to change their celibration decorations.

America is a country of diversity. Can't we all respect one another's differences without trying to ruin a truly wonderful time of year?
but (my little baseball aneurysm) rebecca, that is another blogg subject for you, after the yankees lose... na-na... :-()
My suspicion is that there are too many twits in political positions who are just closet emo twits with bleak views of society that can't stand the thought of normal folks having any sort of faith in anything but their corrupt little beaurocracy.
Seriously, if you don't like the way the country is run then go find another one that better suits your PC lifestyle. We were founded by Christians, and opened our doors to everyone else to come in and live their lives in freedom. Would you go into someone else's house and start telling them that they need to repaint and get new countertops because the existing ones offend you?
As far as Christmas, I like the old days when the season didn't start until the end of Thanksgiving. Growing up, we couldn't start singing carols or putting up decorations until Santa came out, which was normally at the end of the Thanksgiving parade.
America was founded so that the people could live with freedom OF religion, to worship and celebrate as we so choose. Not freedom FROM religion. This is what we fought our independence for, and is one of the major foundations of our laws and customs. If we are angry enough to write in this forum about it, then we should be motivated to do something about it.
KWANZAA is highly publicized, if it weren't, the minorities would protest. Jewish holidays are mentioned and publicized. You can even have a study of the Koran in a public school, but not a Bible study. Christianity is the ONLY religion that seems to ever be under attack, under the guise of Constitutionality. And, people, its because Christians don't stand up and defend it. Do something about it, don't just complain.
As for the tree, it is a Christmas tree and I, for one, always say Merry Christmas.
\I work in a gift shop that sells Christmas cards and you can't believe how difficult it is to find Christmas cards that say "Merry Christmas". I really don't know what this world is coming to.
Merry Christmas everyone.
I love Christmas - the celebration of Jesus' birth, and Christian's around the world look forward to that celebration. Just who are the idiot's who named that tree a "holiday tree" ? I want to have a discussion with them.
Store owners apparently love Christmas too - Christmas toys and Christmas cheer tell us that Thanksgiving's near.
Two months before Christmas, even before Halloween has come and gone, stores are filled with Christmas gifts and decorations already - holidays mean nothing to them except for the money they will make - it's disgusting. We make our own decorations - we use pine cones, carve ornaments from wood, we string popcorn to drape around the tree and we make our own gifts too - no store makes money on us.
The short version -- be nice and be respectful of other's opinions, even if they don't agree with yours, or your comment may be deleted.
