Trapped by crime
While most of New Haven seems focused on the tragic death of Annie Le, several of New Haven's finest are investigating a shooting that happened in Fair Haven and ended with the victim in a car outside the News Channel 8 parking lot on State Street.
Because of what happened, several squad cars and yards of crime scene tape blocked off State St. South for a time and prevented several of our staff members who had been working since the wee hours of the morning from going home. Irritating to be sure, but police have a job to do.
At first officers on the scene said it would be several hours before anyone could leave. Cue the collective groan from several tired staffers. However, police wrapped up what the needed fairly quickly and the blockade of our exit was lifted.
The victim in the shooting was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital. Our news story about what happened is posted on wtnh.com.
