Songs for a snowy day
It started as a quip from Chris and Kristen on Good Morning Connecticut Friday about songs that remind you of the weather. I posted an item on our Good Morning Connecticut Facebook page and on Twitter asking "What song or song title fits today? It sure isn't Heatwave by Martha and the Vandellas."
We've got some great responses so far:
"Cold As Ice" by Foreigner - Mary Trupp MacLeod
Ain't No Sunshine - Bill Withers - Kim Soucy Engle
Enough Is Enough by Donna Summer - Tammy Eustis
Cat Stevens' "Into White" - @jhcovington
"Baby, It's Cold Outside" - @JeffTheRN
C'mon -- I know there are more out there. What are we missing?
Takes a lickin' ...
So why the mad rush?
Our friend and co-worker Chris Velardi sent a Tweet out a little while ago with a picture from a grocery store and the disclaimer "Tuesday is just my normal shopping day. Everyone else is in pre-snow panic mode!"
Funny, I was thinking to myself how I need to stop and get a few things before going home.
Tax deduction for Haiti quake relief
A question from our inbox this morning:
"I thought I heard that a person could claim a tax credit for a 2010 donation to relief efforts in Haiti on their 2009 tax return. Only heard this statement once, but would like to know if this is true or was I 'just dreaming'?"
No, you were not dreaming.
Yes, you can deduct contributions to Haiti Earthquake Relief if you donated between Jan. 11th and until March 1st. You can either take the deduction on your 2009 or 2010 tax return.
Of course there are rules. Read all the details at IRS.gov.
How well do you drive
I don't know whether Connecticut has the absolute worst drivers in the country, but there sure are a lot of folks who don't seem to remember the rules they had to know when they got their licenses however many years ago.
Christmas music Best and Worst
This time of year it's pretty difficult to get away from someone somewhere playing Christmas (yes, I said the "C" word) music. From stores to radio stations, it's all over the place. Some of the songs out there are wonderful classics that I don't mind hearing again, but there are others I can't stand and wish all versions were burned and never heard from again.
Fuzzy+noisy = must-have toy. Obviously.

If you haven't already heard, the next Tickle Me Elmo hot item has arrived for 2009. And it's in a much smaller, less intricate, yet still fuzzy package.
Your best bargain was ?
While I wasn't out there at 4:00 a.m. like many others, I did hit a couple of stores on Black Friday and over the weekend to get a deal or two for the family. The deal I could not pass up (a present for myself) was a 21.5" widescreen computer monitor from Staples for under $90.
So I'm curious -- what was your best bargain? Did you shop for yourself or for others?
