Do unto other as you would have them do unto you,so when they find out who gave him poision, will that be their diet until death.
They did unto him as they would like done unto them.
That is the code,is it not?
I am sad to hear this.
Everyone should have the right to die of natural causes.

Dr. Mel appeared as being a wonderful, dedicated human being.Yes, many evil acts are committed today and if Dr. Mel was poisoned hopefully the individual(s) will be caught.. As a society we have been so consumed not with what is best for society, but how to make a buck. Too many innocents are harmed and no consequences occur 'cause we allow it. How many will actually do something to "change" the laws in CT? Do something? Changing 'law' is not an easy task, but it's a start and healthy way to express anger. There needs to be a balance for people like Dr. Mel and others that are truley victims of a society that disregards the healthy growth spiritual beings such as Dr. Mel. Money is our false God, & likely some lawyer will get paid handsomely to defend this act of cruelty, if he truely was poisoned. We all lose if we 2 helpless to do something, anything to change present condition of apathy. We can't do it separately. Many blessings to all that were part of Dr. Mel's life.

It wasn't Dr. Mel that passed away , it was his friend, MIchael Collins! I had to do a double take as well, but you have to read a little more closely.

I agree with Glenna, an eye for an eye! Murderers should be executed & it should be done in the manner that they killed. Let them feel the pain & suffering their victims did before they die!

I hope the scum who did it is caught, tried, convicted, and executed.

Michael was an acquaintance of both my husband Mel (not Dr. Mel) and I. He was a gentle soul. Rest in peace Michael. And may justice be served.

The Old Testament does say 'an eye for an eye', and that is to recommend a real justice, and meant that for one eye it is not just to get back by taking more than that, which is what many tend to do, and which is not justice but compounded injustice.
Jesus, knowing that people were not really interested in true justice, but were rather being sadistic with an excuse,, said that it is mercy that we need, and not to fight evil with evil. He said that we are all sinners and all deserve punishments, and then he said 'as ye measure it shall be measured unto you'. Mercy does not mean to let things go, but it means that a person can be restrained from doing further harm without us becoming the unjust perpetrators of crime ourselves.
Some of us need to clean up our own hearts before we so harshly judge others. 'take the beam out of your own eye' first.

The man is dead and not suffering now. We don't know if he committed suicide or what.

RIP

One would not choose suicide by this manner of poison. It is a coward's way of murder, both slow and painful. I had some business dealings with Mike long ago. I, too, am saddened by his death. It is my hope that this act not go unpunished. RIP, Mike.

Strange how the poisoning of a man seems to bring the idiots who don't like abortion, out of the closet. I have just one question for these people who don't believe in abortion (and isn't is amazing how the majority of these people are men, who simply want to continue telling women what they can and can not do with their bodies). My question is this: Who do you think is going to pay for all these babies if they were actually born? We can't take care of the ones that are already here and our Welfare system is already a joke. Yet, you want to add to that burden? You do not have the right to tell anyone what they may do with their bodies! So shut up!

Sorry to strain your brain Shadow but when does a fetus become a baby?

Bill, a fetus becomes a baby when it comes into this life and breathes. And if you can get yourself pregnant and then make your own damn choice, you too will then know what it's like. How dare you sit there and bring this topic up. You are such a stupid male chauvinist pig. If your daughter, wife or sister was raped and became pregnant, would you be ok with that? Would you financially support that child? Go find a real cause to devote your time to. The Medieval age has ended. Come out of your cave and quit dragging your knuckles!

I do actually know of a few people who tried to commit suicide by swallowing things like chlorine bleach. kerosene, and substances like anti-freeze, so it is possible.

A fetus is a baby from the moment of conception. The DNA is not the same as the mother's. The embryo and fetus do have life distinct from the mother. Although the fetus is attached to the mother it is not part of the mother. It is definitely human life and not a blob, nor plant, nor monkey. That is another topic though. The person who wrote that may not be aware of how little human life is valued by many people who post here, in any form whether fetus or adult.
I'm glad that Dr Mel has shown that he valued the life of this man. Evidently a few other people didn't.

Please take a science class or ten.

A fetus is a human when it is viable outside the womb.

Guest A,

You are correct. Life begins at conception. I feel abortion is a grave sin and should not be allowed . My faith teaches me this. If you cant aff.ord the child put it up for adoption

Bill:

1. My brain is far from being strained ... especially when talking to you. MY definition is when the baby is actually born. Yeah, I know .... you pro-life nut-jobs and religious freaks choose to believe life begins at conception.

2. Be that as it may ... this thread is about a person's death .... not how one defines the beginning of life.

It's clear you're still using thinking from the Middle Ages before they knew babies could still live when born at 5 months and soon before that. But hey if you want to stay ignorant that's your prerogative.

You won't escape the hand of God. There will be an accounting at the end of our life because there is a justice that is God's alone. In the bible God said "Vengence is mine says the Lord" It is a terrible thing to fall into hands of God's wrath.

Comment from: Guest A [Visitor]
It is a terrible thing to fall into the hands of God's wrath. It's a great thing that God is so merciful! The condition of receiving His mercy is this - "Blessed are the merciful for they shall receive mercy", and 'As ye measure it shall be measured unto you'.

I try to be a merciful person and so I'm trusting that God will be merciful to me. That doesn't mean that I can't defend myself or somebody else, but it means to use minimal force and effort to do so. It means to do 'works of mercy' or 'tzedakah'. The people who are going to experience the 'wrath of God' are the people who are wrathful themselves.

Yeah, Mike was very familiar with the ins and outs of the NY/NJ/CT Tri-state area and radio of course. Brilliant in that regard. Although I knew about his lifestyle and was not a supporter of it or it's behavior/desires, I did not discriminate against him for it either. I also did not want to be alone in his brown Caddy with him either!

These are some wild times that we are living in. Different people are moving into this state and crimes that we see in other region are hitting here. I suspect that someone watched Forensic Files and got that idea.

Were you afraid he might rape you? That is part of the problem with homophobes. You see, a person with homosexual inclinations has often suffered throughout his life from feelings of alienation and it gets compounded. What they need are not lovers but true friends. True friends are so scarce. I read the Advocate article and comments, and apparently he had been getting more and more alienated from everyone and probably more and more depressed.
Maybe he needed you to not be afraid to get in a car with him, to trust him as a person, imperfect as we all are.

Comment from: James [Visitor]
Was I afraid that he might rape me? No. I am a very bad man so that could not happen even if he tried. I was concerned that he may try to come onto me or ask me out. He was nice but he did volunteer his homosexuality, almost trying to feel out who else may be gay in an attpemt to try something.

I do not run from the word "homophobe" as it is not a bad word, but gays often use it with anger to make it appear bad. If that is the word you want to use just because I do not agree with gay activity, then go ahead. Just because there is a conservative scheme to force it onto US society be the powers that be, it does not mean that all of us are cool with it.

Mike did indeed talk too much about his gayness which I did not want to hear. If anyone else had talked about the (homo) sexual things he talked about on the job, then there would have been problems. He was still cool, but the homosexual part of his life was his negative.

And for the record, I DID get into the car with him and he seemed a little nervous because he may not have known how to take it. He was carfeful not to try anything and kept it all business which I appreciated. It was the first and only time that I got into a car of a known homosexual. Another dude we worked with may have been too, but that is another story.

Mike was a brilliant man, like many homosexuals are (except for their urges) and he will be missed by the boradcasting community. Working with him at the station was the funest job that I have ever had, even though the pay was low. The perks were high and I got to see how phony politicians are (in person) and how local media tries to act like they are national media for little stories in regards to cameramen trying to push people around. On-air TV personalites are kind of stuck up as well...

investigator - in a story from the Hartford Courant on Jun 29, 2010 (courtesy of the Courant):

"The Connecticut medical examiner's office said the cause of Collins' June 17 death was poisoning by ethylene glycol. Orange police Chief Robert Gagne said detectives were investigating 'some unusual circumstances.' He would not elaborate."

I would assume Orange PD is covering every angle, but it seems to imply that is was NOT a suicide.
07/02/10 @ 15:29
Comment from: Guest A [Visitor]
I read that. It doesn't 'imply' anything, but, as you said that they are covering ALL the angles, including suicide. Whether he was murdered or committed suicide does not change the fact that he had been being more and more alienated and feeling depressed, and needed real friends.

Dr. Mel:
So, do you or WTNH bother to pay any attention to the derogatory remarks, attacks on other users, and offensive or off-topic remarks on your blog? It is truly unconscionable that people would use this venue to write such despicable remarks and to use it as a platform for something not related to Mike Collins.

I have been mourning the death of an old friend and was so pleased to discover that you had written about him. Micheal Collins was a kind, gentle man. He was generous with his time and his talents to assist various organizations that were important to him, by creating newsprint and radio ads for their special events. GLBTQ organizations were just one group who benefited from his contributions.

I will forever treasure my time with Mike and it was an honor and a privilege to know him.

It is very sad to see that people can only think of themselves and their small little views of the world. I agree with you Denny that some people should be blocked from posting comments if it is not related to the subject being discussed.
It is absolutely appalling to think that people can go back and forth over the issue of abortion or gay rights in an article that was written about a death of a friend.
What comes around will go around and may bite the people who least expect it for making such comments. I did not know the man in this article but RIP and I hope that his friends and family do not take the comments of a few ignorant people to heart.

OMG how did this turn from a post by Dr Mel about losing a good friend to an abortion forum and a moral debate about homosexuality.
