The Storm Watch Is On
Here we go. The most powerful storm on the face of the earth is about to make a very close pass to our region. It has been a long time since we last had a hurricane, and it is so easy to forget how fickle these storms can be...

Can The March Lion Be Denied?
February has been relatively quiet. Rainfall and melted snow come to an inch or less with snowfall amounts for the entire month averaging 3 inches or less. And even if we have had our cold spells, the month's temperature is averaging 1 to 2 degrees above normal. Compared to even last February when we had 12 inchesof snow, this month has been a relative sleeper. But there is always March, and the machines are at it again.

Changing Temperatures
Hello ![]()
Some temperature changes on the way over the next few days. We started with some areas in the 40s this morning and that is above where we should be during the afternoon.
The normal high temperature for shoreline and interior areas is 39 degrees this time of the year. I am forecasting 40s for today.
Colder air will invade tonight. There could be a few snow showers around parts of Connecticut as the cold air arrives. Windy as well with some gusts to 35 mph possible tonight!
Have a great day! -Gil

From Sunshine to Snow Today!
Hello!
I am expecting some weather changes today! Dry weather will hold through lunch. The snow is expected to break out between 3PM and 5PM later today. Here is the good news. Temperatures should make it up over freezing midday before the snow starts. This will keep the road surfaces wet and not white for some time across the state. It could turn a little slick after 6PM across Northern areas before the snow changes to rain.
Have a nice day! -Gil

February...In Like A Lamb, Out Like A Lion?
I know this is not supposed to be the way it goes, but you can never be very certain. During the first week of February, we enjoyed 50-degree weather, and even with rain, we'll experience more of the same this week....until our old NAO, the North Atlantic Oscillation comes back in its negative phase. It all means a return to colder weather, for possibly the remainder of the month. As long as the flow stays cold and dry, we'll be fine, but....there'll be additional chances for snow before it is all finally over. This could be just one of those winters that just slowly fades away. In any case, I'll be taking some time off to do some checking up with doctors and resting up. I spend more time at different doctors than I do in front of the barometer these days, but thanks to them all, I am still staying ahead of this incurable cancer. I will continue to make changes in lifestyle and working habits, but that is a small price for staying active and being part of this world....and I owe a lot to you

Spring Song
I wouldn't make too many promises, especially with February, known as the snow month, getting underway. But some changes are definitely showing up. It has been a rough winter. Most people are ready for some changes, and there seems to be a crack or two forming in this frozen winter

ONE STEP AT A TIME
Thanks for all your heartfelt wishes on my latest roadblock in my battle with multiple myeloma. These words are incredibly helpful. In the meantime, brace yourself, the coldest weather of the season is looking for us. So far, January has averaged close to two degrees below normal, but that is a significant number for the coldest time of year. That number will be increasing as this week goes on.

Storms Everywhere
Today, we await a major snowstorm....we'll have our share and it will be followed by some of the coldest weather of the season.....I am also being hit by another storm, this one related to health...

Happy New Year!
I hope all your wishes become reality in 2009...most of all let's wish for good health. With that, everything else will fall into place for ourselves. Of course, winter weather fans are hoping for more genuine winter weather, and at least through mid-January, those wishes should come true. A strongly negative North Atlantic Oscillation has formed. It has "stay tuned" written all over it.
Overall, 2008 averaged warmer than normal....the winter did bring more snow than normal to most of the state, especially northern sections. This year is behaving differently. Although December has averaged above normal, so too, is snowfall. But my annual New Years resolution continues to limit my long range forecasts. Can you really trust them?
