What Were You Doing 40 Years Ago?
I remember the day as if it were yesterday. This was the day that we landed on the moon.....It was also a month before my first daughter was born. Arlene was expecting, and I was a graduate student at NYU, living in the Bronx, over the Major Deegan Expressway. It was quite a time. I lived next door to a super family. Dr. Reich was a physics professor at NYU and his wife was the best German cook you could imagine. Her father was the concert master of the Berlin Symphony while her husband was a close associate of Max Plank, Albert Einstein, and all the great ones of the early 20th century....yet, they came to this country penniless...the Nazis had taken all their money, and if it weren't for Einstein, they never would have been able to leave Germany.

Our Tornado Season
It may be hard to believe, but Connecticut has its own tornado alley, and its own season. This is the season for the action as we saw played out on Friday, but while the storm was devastating in parts of Wethersfield, this year marks the 20th anniversary of another tornado, and that was just about as powerful as they become. It became known as the Hamden tornado, and I am sure there are plenty of memories.

It Was A Tornado On June 26th 2009
**UPDATED** New, detailed bulletin and radar loop at the bottom of this page!
Hello everyone! I just wanted to get this information out to keep you updated on those strong storms that rolled across Connecticut Friday.
The National Weather Service has reviewed radar data and the actual storm damage around Farmington and Wethersfield. They have confirmed the touchdown of an EF1 tornado Friday, June 26th 2009 in Wethersfield. They typically review the pattern of damage to determine if it is from a tornado or straight line winds (microburst). The damage in Farmington, West Hartford and points Southeast through Northern New London County are straight line winds.
Tornadoes are NOT unusual in Connecticut.

The Season Of Discontent!!!
The other day a newspaper reporter called and expressed a common opinion...weather people tend to play up the negative rather than the positive. Tourism is a major issue in Connecticut, and when weather forecasts lack the positive, folks are discouraged from taking advantage of some of the great attractions in Connecticut. But, I tried my best to explain that tourists should not be overly concerned about the weather, or forecasts, especially in the summer.

What A Few Weeks!
This is the time of year for fundraisers all across the land. Also, the time for Cancer walks and benefits. I just finished hosting one at Yale at the school's new research facility on the Orange/West Haven Line. Soon the new hospital will be up and running. We keep moving, trying to find ways to live far longer and better than ever thought possible. It is an optimistic time. Nobody want a diagnosis of cancer, but we are sure getting better dealing with it.
