A-Rod Comes Clean (Kinda)

So, Yankee star Alex Rodriguez addresses the media to talk about his steroid use. He reads a brief statement and then takes questions -- but no follow-ups. He says he's sorry.. he was "young and stupid".. and didn't really know what he was taking. I say, "Give me a break."

Pro football in Hartford -- No, really

Yeah, I know -- you're looking at that blue, green and silver logo and thinking 'what the heck is that'. That's the logo of the UFL, as in United Football League, and they intend to have a team playing in Hartford this fall. Seriously.

A-Roid, say it ain't so!
Posted by Erik Dobratz, Sports Producer on February 7th, 2009 at 12:38:53 pm, 1661 viewsWhat perfect timing.
You thought the Joe Torre book that calls Alex Rodriguez A-fraud was gonna make some waves at spring training, this latest Sports Ilustrated report is gonna make Rodriguez' life miserable.
Accoring to Sports Illustrated, Rodriguez tested positive for steroids in a random test back in 2003. See link below

I hope he does the right thing and just admits that he did use performance enhancing drugs.
I wonder how Bud Seligs coffee and donut went down this morning. Serves him right for burying his head in the sand all of these years.
** UPDATE ** (Feb. 9th at 2:30pm) News just broke that A-Rod admitted to using performance enhancing drugs.

The UConn men are Good!
Posted by Erik Dobratz, Sports Producer on February 3rd, 2009 at 01:07:02 pm, 1448 viewsAnything can happen between now and the end of March but if you're a UConn basketball fan....this is as good as it gets.
The women have been ranked number one all season long and a trip to the Final Four is pretty much guaranteed.
But the UConn men really surprised me last night, they killed a tough Louisville team at Freedom Hall. The game was close early and then the Huskies just buried Louisville. The Huskies have just one blemish on their record, losing to a hot shooting Georgetown team in the Big East opener last month. They haven't lost since and I'm not sure when they will lose again.
Stay tuned it could be a special ride in March.

During the Break - Bowl and Babies
Keith wanted to take a quick poll around the set as to who would win the Super Bowl this Sunday. He is rooting for the Steelers. Geoff is as well but says he has no passion about this matchup. As you know he loves his Eagles.

Super Bowl 43 pick and a player to remember
Posted by Erik Dobratz, Sports Producer on January 30th, 2009 at 12:32:58 pm, 1337 viewsEvery year we like to pick a final score for the Super Bowl.
I didn't have the chance to poll the newsroom but what do you think.
I'm not a fan of either team but both have some pretty compelling storylines.
The Steelers coach Mike Tomlin seems like a great guy who really has his act together and 37 year old Kurt Warner is just a good story all the way around.
I'm gonna root for the Cardinals but I have a feeling the Steelers are gonna win the game.
Arizona 27
Pittsburgh 24
if you don't have a rooting interest in the game, click on the link below. This story in todays Times may help sway you a bit.

It's about time
Posted by Erik Dobratz, Sports Producer on January 12th, 2009 at 02:37:35 pm, 2194 viewsYes, I am a Yankee fan but today the Baseball Writers of America did the right thing and elected Jim Rice into the Hall of Fame.
For years I've talked to various writers and some other media types who would tell me what a jerk Rice could be with the media following games. Who cares? The guy was one of the best players of his era (drug free by the way).
I've met Jim Rice a few times and he always very approachable and couldn't be a nicer guy.
This was Rice's last year on the Hall of Fame ballot and I can honestly say I'm sure quite a few guys were just thrilled to make him sweat.
Rickey Henderson also made the Hall of Fame today, that was a no-brainer....
