Rice iced again
I'm stepping out of the world of news for a moment, to moonlight with my friends in the sports department. The baseball Hall of Fame has once again passed over former Boston Red Sox slugger Jim Rice.
I've been a Yankee fan since childhood and Rice was always one of those guys I hated to see coming to bat, especially in a crucial situation. In my opinion, the guy also has the numbers to be in the 'Hall', collecting almost four hundred home runs and finishing with a career batting average of 298. But, during his time in the big leagues Rice had a reputation of having a testy relationship with the media. Of course, many of those same journalists vote to detemine who is ultimately honored in Cooperstown. I'd hate to think Rice is missing out on becoming a part of baseball history, because he wasn't media friendly. What do you think?

Who picks who gets in?
Isn't there a standard?
Anyone know?????
The only player next year who will be a first ballot shoo-in is Ricky Henderson.
It shows how special a place the Hall is when a player of the caliber of Jim Rice, or even Andre Dawson has trouble getting in. How Rizzuto made it, I'll never know. I do know that every year after Pee Wee Reese made it, Rizzuto started whining on his broadcasts how he should be in. he deserves it as a broadcaster, not as a player.
by a bunch of moron's that probably never
stepped on a basefield as a player or know
anything about the hard work needed to be-
come as great as Jim was.
Ilove your sports coverage. But I do find it lacking abit when you cover (or more ofetn NOT cover) Division II College Sports for the area.
I do realize the Time constraints you are under, but wanted to let you know my thoughts.
keep up the good work.
The short version -- be nice and be respectful of other's opinions, even if they don't agree with yours, or your comment may be deleted.
