Political Dirty Tricks in the Internet Era
It's a political blow to a campaign we haven't seen before in the Internet era. Sen. Joseph Lieberman's web site came to a screeching halt today due to what he thinks may be "criminal and other illegal conduct." The question is -- was www.joe2006.com the victim of a deliberate attack by supporters of his political rival, or did it crash for other reasons.

Problems at the polls
Elections workers have a hard job to do, and I'm not sure I'd want to trade places with them when things go wrong on election day, like this morning in New Haven when one polling place wasn't able to open until 6:30 and some would-be voters left without casting their ballot. Also in New Haven, the Malloy Campaign planned to file an official complaint after Malloy's name was apparently missing from one voting machine.
How was your voting experience? Did you find broken machines or serious delays, or was your voting trouble free? Did you sense any excitement for one candidate or another? Please share your experience with us.

How'r we doing?
Former New York City Mayor Ed Koch was notable for often asking the question "How'm I doing?" While it became a political trademark for him, it's not a bad way to take stock of anyone's daily performance of just getting through life. If you haven't ever tried, just spend a day asking that simple question of everyone you know and prepare to be more than a little surprised by some of the answers you get.
Since we are now over six months into this new adventure of blogging as a newsroom, I thought it was time to ask that question of those of you who read and participate here.
First though, my thanks to the members of the News Channel 8 team who have embraced this forum as a place to communicate directly with you, our viewers (and readers) on a wide range of topics in and sometimes out of the news.
So with apologies to Mayor Koch, we would like to know - "How'r we doing?" Go ahead and tell us what you like (and of course what you don't) by clicking the comments link below.

Forgive or Fire Fabrizi
Bridgeport Mayor John Fabrizi admitted publicly today he has abused cocaine and alcohol in the past, but that he has not used drugs in 18 months and stopped drinking four months ago. Mayor Fabrizi also said it "never, ever affected my job performance."
Is Fabrizi's apology enough? Should he resign from office despite his apology, or can Bridgeport residents forgive and forget and move ahead?
For example, former Washington D.C. Mayor Marion Barry had to leave office after his drug conviction, but the citizens eventually re-elected him to office and Barry still serves on the city council.

What Did Your Dad Teach You?
In preparation for the upcoming Father's Day, we are working on a story for this Friday night where we ask as many people as we can to answer one simple question:
"What's the best advice your Dad ever gave you?"
Sounds simple enough, but we have found that the question makes most people stop and think about their answer a little bit. So we put the question to you, avid readers of our News Channel 8 blog.
We plan to include some of the best responses as part of our story on Friday night and if you give us your name and what city or town you live in--we'll be happy to give you or your Dad credit for the shared wisdom.
Please click the comments link below to share what your Dad taught you with us.

Where Do You Live?
We assume that you know where you live, but one rule in a newsroom is never to assume anything. The classic version of that bromide is from a Chicago news agency that is legendary for having a sign in the newsroom reminding reporters "If your mother says she loves you...check it out."
It is in that spirit that we pose the question of "Where do you live?"
We ask, because we have a persistent commentor to our blog, who likes to tell us often that no one but us jaded journalists considers Connecticut to be part of New England. That we only refer to New England as part of some kind of secret conspiracy to convince people that we are closer to Boston than we are to New York. (Note to literal readers--there is no conspiracy that we know about.)
So with apologies to the movie "Animal House", we put it to you Greg--and all of our Connecticut readers and viewers. Where do you live? Do you think of it as being in New England? Or in the "Tri-State" area? Or some other place altogether?
Please let's keep this topic with one comment to a customer, but click on the comments link below and let us know your opinion on this critically important question, so we can put it to rest once and for all.

Pumped Up Prices: Your Turn
At News Channel 8, we continue to cover the daily stories around the spiraling prices we are all paying at the gas pump. Prices have now topped three dollars a gallon across much of Connecticut. Today Governor Rell called on the big oil companies to return some of the billions they are reporting in profits directly to consumers--by immediately rolling back prices at their pumps.
We want to hear from you. How are the higher gas prices impacting you and your family? We know many of your are upset over this issue and we hope to provide an opportunity to speak out about your situation and what sacrifices you may be having to make.
It is simple to participate. Click on the "Comments" link below and share yours with us.

What Stops A Non-Stop Newscast?
Faithful viewers of our Non-Stop News at 10 on UPN 9 may have been surprised on this Monday night not to see the newscast they were expecting. Instead, an episode of the show "Entertainment Studios.Com" was on the air until 10:30pm.
So why the unscheduled change? A fire alarm at our New Haven studios.
