Kristen Cusato will be returning to the News Channel 8 airwaves this weekend, at least on a fill-in basis.
Long time viewers will recall Kristen was formerly the co-anchor with Chris Velardi on the weekend editions of Good Morning Connecticut immediately before leaving to move to San Diego a few years ago for personal reasons.
As News Director Kirk Varner said in an e-mail to the staff this afternoon, "family needs have recently brought her back to the East Coast, and thus we were able to ask her to come in and help us out on a freelance basis between now and the end of the year."
If you're watching this weekend, Kristen will be filling in for Sara Welch on the evening newscasts, while Sara wakes up early to co-anchor the mornings with Chris.

I switched to the news from the Yankee game to catch the headlines of the day. I am so glad I did! It was such a pleasant surprise and so nice to see Kristin Cusato back on Channel 8.

I am THRILLED to see Kristen again! I hope she will be able to work with Darren; they were a great team; I have missed their banter. While Sonya may be a fine person (although she sure seems to love herself a bit too much), she does not have the same chemistry Darren and Kristen have.
