Our healthcare system is a friggin mess, there are NO two ways about it.........

Basicaly, we have a "over-valued" system that most people CANT afford and they cant afford it by themselves OR with somekind of "insurance".......



If you look back when healthcare insurance was kind of in its "infancy", it was SUPPOSED to cover "catastrophic" illness or accidents that might happen to us, to put "undue" costs onto us....... THAT made sense and if it kept on that path, we would probably not have the problem we have today.......unfortunatly, it eventually covered MOST things, basicly giving the healthcare industry a "green light" to raise costs as they see fit..........basic "free market" principles dont appy anymore, because the costs are "spread out"........somehow in all this "business" gets saddled with responsibility of providing it....today, a HUGE cost for them, part of the reason we are loosing our auto manufacturing in this country...... healthcare is EVERYONES responsibility, not just government our your damn place you work at...........


Then, we have the " anything that is GOOD for you will COST you, whether it needs to or not" mentalty ( f''cking greed ) " yes we have a drug that you can take for HIV......but it cost you $10,000 a month for it".....beautiful............even if that was cut to say, $2000 per month, the damn drug company wont go bankrupt.......

People B-ITCH & whine about the cost of gasoline.......you people ought to be complainin about WHY a 5 mile ambulance ride costs $500.... or that a plastic backbrace that MAYBE costs $75 to make gets charged out at over $2500......a maker of a medical piece of equipment makes a "surcharge" on that from the Dr because THEY have a patent on it...people using emergancy rooms as walk in clinics.......countless "referals" have to be had instead of just going to see the Dr you NEED to go see...the list is ENDLESS...


It doesnt matter if its food, healthcare the enviroment, education....the thought process is the same

If you ask most people about healthcare, there seems to be a mentality out there that it should be FREE..........we DONT live in that kind of world...........sad to say......THESE people need to come back to planet earth...........

Bottom line.........we better find a more "practical" approach on how we "value" things............

Why is a public airways network ABC all-obana-channel allowed to BAN opposing views like the country who shoots their opponents in the streets?

I would have appreciated watching it, but I, like so many others, don' get channel 8, let alone ABC, since analog ended on June 12th.

I watched the entire broadcast and found that ABC did an excellent job of bringing out objections that many of us have.

President Obama didn't have any definitive answers at this point, but I wasn't really expecting any. I have somewhat of a better idea of what he's proposing after last nights broadcast, but really need to acquire a lot more information before I form an opinion.

It's going to be EXTREMELY difficult for Obama to reach the ojectives he's outlined. I can't see how he's going to make it all happen as he envisions health care, but he's certainly going to try. I don't think people in the healtcare profession will be all that cooperative.

my only disagreement is the "need" to tie in Health Insurance Companies/HMOs"... for an effective health care system you only need two things... a patient and a Doctor, that's all...no HMO siphoning off valuable dollars for corporate jets and junkets...(HMOs are obsolete)

i did like the woman who disagreed with the cost... we spend and will continue to spend more money, for less care... other western nations have far better health care and do it for a lot less...we are NOT a world leader in this arena...

And so it came to pass that employers, facing spiraling costs and ever-higher taxes, raised their prices and laid off workers. Others simply gave up and went out of business and the economy sank like unto a rock dropped from a cliff. The banking industry was destroyed. Manufacturing slowed to a crawl. Then "The One" said, "I am the "The One" - The Messiah - and I'm here to save you! We shall just print more money so everyone will have enough!" ABC did an excellent job of bringing up the questions and voicing the opinions of people who oppose Obama's plans to revamp the health care system - I saw no media bias at all.

Obama's rush to create a government run health care program must be stalled- he should be going after the private insurer's and make them drop their exhorbitant cost to be insured. Medicare and Medicaid are government programs and look how disasterous these gov't run programs ended up. HMO's now tell Dr.s what tests they can order and what they cannot - Medicare just flat out refuses to allow many treatments and tests to those on Medicare. As to "choice" that is questionable. I heard him say that if an employee is insured with a company health insurance, they cannot drop the private plan and choose the gov't run plan - so where is the choice here ?

Cost containment means denial of tests, treatments and services - it's done to Medicare patients and if this gov't program gets in, all Americans can expect to be refused specific tests and treatments - that's how Medicare costs are contained. The biggest problem with having a gov't run health plan is that very quietly there will be a different kind of "ethnic cleansing" tasking place - the weak, disabled and chronically ill people can be "erased" by refusing them needed treatment. It's done to the elderly on Medicare - and it is legal to do so under the guise of "cost containment". The insurance companies should be doing the cost containment by dropping the price of insurance - more people could get insurance and insurance companies would make more money. Why no one is pushing that idea is beyond me - is everyone so charmed by Obama's gift of gab ? I'm not - we shall wait and see if common sense reappears in Congress and Obama's plan for his kind of change in health care is shot down. We can hope, can't we ?

During the showing of "Prescription for America" there were some facts displayed about the general health of the population. Obesity was one of those things and is often cited by medical experts as our number one health issue. If we could get rid of obesity we could make huge improvements in the lives of many citizens as well as greatly reduce their future likelyhood of developing other conditons that are linked to it, including type II diabetes. I think diabetes was another item on the diplayed list so maybe we could even knock off two birds with one stone.

If government is sincerley concerned with healthcare costs and not just using it as another lame excuse for the expansion of federal government in general, why hasn't it done something about obesity already?

I may be wrong about this, and if so I would welcome clarification by somebody knowledgeable on the subject and NOT in the employment of a company using it in their products, to correct me. I have read articles about the use of High-Fructose Corn Syrup in our beverages and foods. From what I gathered from these articles it is a factor in weight gain among consumers of these products which is practically all of us.

If there is a body of evidence to demonstrate the potentially harmful effects of this substance on the citizens of this country why is it allowed to be in our diets at all? Why hasn't this substance been banned by the federal government if it is indeed a contributory factor to our nation's health issues? If governement is going to establish itself as the best way to solving big problems shouldn't it already be dealing with lesser ones?

Why is a product allowed to say it contains 0% trans fat when in fact it contains less than some specific amount but not really absolutley NONE? I know I'm old and not up on the latest math principles but when did "0%" mean more than nothing at all? When you add this food with "zero" trans fats to that food with "zero" trans fats in your diet you have a result greater than zero, right? Yet, this deceptive practice is okay according to government.

Why isn't alchohol on the controlled substance list as well as tobacco? Does anyone think these substances are safe and healthy? The government allows these substances because they make huge tax revenues from them. Any health concerns there may be with alcohol or tobacco pale in the face of all the taxes they earn. And now we're supposed to buy into a federal health plan that "won't affect your choices"? Sounds like a campaign promise to me. In my forty years as a registered voter they rarely, if ever, are upheld.

I agree with Elle inasmuch as her comment that president Obama's "plan" needs to be stalled. I'd go further than that though. It needs to be fully developed with "all the cards on the table" and then brought up for debate and finally a public referendum needs to be held before it would have a chance of going into law. A truly concientious and involved public PARTICIPATES in government and helps it stay honest. This government is no different.

Oh, one more thing I would add to the public referendum. In order to participate in the voting you must bring proof of your citizenship. Yes, that is discrimination of a sort, insisting you are a citizen before you may have anything to say about a country's future. Maybe we should even require voters on this issue to be gainfully employed as well. After all, this plan's financial support will most certainly fall onto the shoulders of the American taxpaying public as all the other great schemes coming from Washington have.

I had the unmistakable feeling that the questions were carefully selected by president Obama's team and he fully knew each and every one of them before anyone showed up. Was Charles Gibson supposed to be the voice of oppostion, asking the president the "tough" questions? Sorry, I didn't get the impression that anyone there, including Mr. Gibson, gave the president any real argument at all. I have no problem with a civil discussion but most people get emotional when discussing something they are seriously concerned about and that element seemed to be oddly missing. Compared to the way other networks may have handled the same thing I suppose it wasn't any worse than I have come to expect from TV news in general.
