Birth Control Pills for Men
As the Health Reporter-- I try to keep up with the latest news on medical advances, diet and nutrition. This story caught me eye.
Researchers are trying to develop birth control pills for men.
Promising data was presented at the "Future Of Male Contraception" conference held in Seattle -- among the sponsors -- the NIH and the WHO.
The highlights included -- two oral pills and a sperm blocker. It's not happening anytime soon. There is still too much research to be done.
Still, I'm sure there are many women out there who would welcome the reality of it.
But the big question is-- will it appeal to men?

Even if the idea appeals to men, they probably won't remember to take it! Birth control is just not important to a guy. If men had to carry a baby for nine months, than perhaps . . . .

It sounds like a nice idea, but I wouldn't want to count on it.
I don't forsee men taking birth control when they do not get pregnant. Perhaps there are some who might.
Real Question:
Is it safer for men to take the birth control than for women??????????????

I seriously doubt it would be a priority that
a male would take seriously and taken regularly.
I would never count on it as a sure thing! As others
have already written - the responsibility will
still be the females!!

Ol`e MacDonald had a farm,we were brought up on a farm, there is certian times for breeding, you can`t get pregnant unless you decide to multiply.my parents had 4 and spaced them 3 years apart.Girl,boy,girl,boy.To prevent pregnency don`t have intercourse(sex).A sure cure. It`s not hard to comprehend.Children are sexually transmitted, just like sexually transmitted diseases, you can`t get aids if you don`t have sex with someone that has aids. You can`t get pregnent or get aids if you don`t have sex.if you want aids or babys, get with someone that has aids, and is ovulating,or has a high sperm count...Just keep your pants on until you want to bring a child into the world.~Peace Glenna~

I thought that men had birth control already. The pants fly.
Do you honestly think that men are going to rem remember to take a pill?

I think that the only way men's birth control could work is if it could be taken immedietly before a sexual encounter. If the men have to take it regularly, then it probably won't happen. I agree with CJP. I would want to know if it is safer for men or women.

Oh Lordy, THAT I seriously do NOT see happening. Maybe a few, VERY few might do it, but I certainly wouldn't bet my last dollar on too many doing it.

Thanks for the post Jocelyn. GREAT topic!
Now, as for me folks. I do not feel it is
all up to the Girl to take precautions. If it was available of course I would be willing to take it..even on a regular basis. That is if I was involved with a\
Girl or felt the possibility that I might
find romance.
I respect Girls too much to have it all fall on them. It is not fair. Us guys need to step up to the plate too.

Kudos to you, Glen. Your attitude about responsibility for birth control is refreshing.
I do like the idea of birth control for men, but since women end up with the pregnancy, any woman who wants to go this route should make damn sure that her man is trustworthy.
I also think this is a great option for men to protect themselves against being "ooops-ed" by a woman. I know it is not politically correct to discuss this, but I actually know women who have intentionally gotten pregnant against the wishes of their husbands and in a couple of cases out of a desperate attempt to get the man to marry them. Very sad. Still happens today, unfortunately. Any man not wanting such entrapment would do well to consider this form of birth control if they have any inkling their partner is baby desperate and/or if they know they absolutely do not want a child.
In the end, more options is always a good thing. Some women have health issues that make the pill dangerous, so if they have a trusted partner, this could be a good option.

Sorry, it's not going to happen. I'd love to see it happen, but reality sets in and I think NOT.
It will take generations of re-educated young men and boys from childhood to have a society where the majority of men are respectful and responsible enough to see the advantages of gender equality in all areas including family planning....we're just not there yet, and if the fundies have their way, we will never be there.

Most drugs these days contain so many side effects that are dangerous that I don't think any man would seriously consider taking a birth control pill. My wife and I practice safe sex and she does not use any birth control products at all, by choice. And I control my sexual appetite as I don't want another child. It's all about control and a pill should not substitute for that.

thank you baby jesus for giving the power of birth back to the men as well as the women. There will be no more "well she was on the pill" excuses as well as there will be no more "oops honey i forgot my pill you should have worn a condom" I as a very sexually active 30 year old male can not wait til i can pick up my first batch and will pay whatever it takes to make sure that i will not have un-wanted childeren cause someone decides they wanna be a mommy! With the combination of the man pill and condoms which I already use, I now have the birthing power in my life, not the random females i choose to spend my nights with!!!
We're back boys!
Just watch out for the bible thumpers using this to take away Roe v. Wade

It's about time! Some girls are manipulative and lie about taking their pills just because they want to trap you. And girls also forget to take the pills sometimes!! Trust me, I seen the results so don't try to tell me it's not true! Besides it's my sperm, so why shouldn't I be able to control it. I always bring the condom anyway. Even though I don't like it because condoms are messy, I never forget to put a condom on. I had girls try to manipulate me to not use condoms because they know I don't really like it. They always say, I am on the pill, so why do you want to use a condom... blah, blah, blah. So pills are an alternative to using condoms. Much better though because condoms are messy anyway. Thus, I would be more willing to take a pill instead of a condom. Plus better sex! I would totally take these pills.

My boyfriend loves the idea! I often forget mine, so he wishes that he had that kind of control over it.

I think anything to help out is good, but yet you still have to look at the health risk. This pill may not be for everyone. this pill may react different to a person case by case. As for me I see it as a good investment, Because I'm married with four kid, and truthfully me and my wife want one more but not no time soon, and we both don't like condoms. One of the comment above the lady said only have sex when you ready to have kid, which just sound crazy and sould like you'll be lying to yourself to say you would. We are human and it's in our nature to be sexual active, arouse, horny, etc. To say just have sex only when you want to make kid just don't sound right. Yes we have to control your action in between sheet. And both parties have to has full responability of what they do. But if this pill don't harm you and helps then I'm all for it. I believe if the you and your wife or partner have an open communication about it and be adults about it things could go well. But nothing is guarantee, even with birth control and all the other stuff. But yet is helps.

Women have control over sex, the pregnancy, whether or not she will keep the child, whether or not the child will have the father's last name, whether or not the father's name will appear on the birth certificate, whether or not to pursue child support.....can the guy control his own sperm and still enjoy sex liberally...hope so
