Darren Kramer and a pie

A few weeks ago I posted on this blog the story of my wife's pumpkin plight. A national shortage of canned pumpkin had made its way to Connecticut, and a canned pumpkin concoction is one of my wife's favorite snacks.

The good folks from Lyman Orchards heard about my plight. They assure me they are hip deep in pumpkins, and shared with me the very first sample of their brand new pumpkin pie recipe. It was good before, but now they have tweaked it to be even better.

You'll see the new pies in stores soon. Meantime the first one they sent me is being devoured in the newsroom as I write this. Goooood.

Hunting for Pumpkin

Posted by Darren Kramer on September 23rd, 2009 at 07:36:51 am, 3887 views

My wife has to take a corporate drug test this week. The joke around our house is that the only thing she is going to test positive for is pumpkin.

She eats some little odd concoction of canned pumpkin and nuts every day. Healthy, good for you, and a bit odd I guess.

Pumpkin panic set in this week.

Our usual grocery store was out of canned pumpkin. So was the backup store. A little quizzing of the store staff turned up the answer. A nation-wide canned pumpkin shortage! A lot of stores in our state, even the big ones, have been out of canned pumpkin for weeks. Pumpkin growers blame a lack of sunshine this summer for limiting pumpkin production.

Will the shelves be stocked in time for Thanksgiving pumpkin pie?

Stay tuned.

The recommendation is that you should visit an opthalmologist every year. I didn't.
Consequently, I didn't know I was at risk for a detached retina.

Want to recapture some of the vigor of your youth? Would you like to look and feel years younger? A lot of magazine ads and late night infomercials would have you believe it's as easy as pulling out your credit card for the latest miracle product. You can buy that stuff if you want to, but I am about to pitch a way to make you look and feel younger -- and you don't have to "rush your check or money order" anywhere. My advice? Get in the game!

Jackson Story; Have You Lost Interest?

Posted by Ted Koppy on July 1st, 2009 at 05:14:46 pm, 2977 views

It has been nearly a week since the death of Michael Jackson. I turned on the TV today, and surfed the cable news stations. Today's top story? More Michael Jackson. Not just one story, but a seemingly endless train of reporters covering various angles about Jackson's estate, his family, and memorial services.

Right now my TV is off, because having those channels on is a waste of electricity. Surely there have to be some other newsworthy stories to cover.

Posted by Gil on June 28th, 2009 at 12:16:16 am, 6923 views

**UPDATED** New, detailed bulletin and radar loop at the bottom of this page!

Hello everyone! I just wanted to get this information out to keep you updated on those strong storms that rolled across Connecticut Friday.

The National Weather Service has reviewed radar data and the actual storm damage around Farmington and Wethersfield. They have confirmed the touchdown of an EF1 tornado Friday, June 26th 2009 in Wethersfield. They typically review the pattern of damage to determine if it is from a tornado or straight line winds (microburst). The damage in Farmington, West Hartford and points Southeast through Northern New London County are straight line winds.

Tornadoes are NOT unusual in Connecticut.
