Last week was the last time I was at my eye doctor. I have glaucoma and the pressure needs to be checked regularly. This is hereditary from both parents, so all my siblings and myself were made aware at an early age that we HAD to go every six months as adults. We ALL go frequently since it could mean blindness if we didn't.

I have gone every year since I was 19.. (in my 50's now) Since I wear contacts the doctor makes you have an eye exam each year before he renews your contact prescription. I think I would have went each year anyway.

So glad to see you are back Jocelyn we missed you on the evening news!! I just had an examination and trying to get used to new contacts to see close and distant without wearing reading glasses not easy!! My mom is legally blind we just went to several doctors for the same problem you had but her situation is different they couldnt do the surgery too dangerous for her she has many other issues one eye is prosctiscus like leg or arm and other eye she can barely see it is so very hard for her but she is a fighter thank god. She has had diabetes for over 40 years now and that is the culpert that damamnged her eyes I go each year to my eye doctor. Thanks again for sharing with us and again so glad to have you back hope the recovery goes smoothly for you and things get better. We took her the Retina Specialists in Hamden Ct they were wonderful to us and to her. It has been a long road with her eyes so sad I can really relate to you on this. See you on the news ok :))!!!

I do go to the Opthalmologist every year. but during that period a couple of years ago, I developed Glaucoma and it was very severe when I went for my check-up. I already had damage done and since I had no symptoms, I am so blessed that I did go to the doctor when I did, or I would have started to lose vision. The pressure was extremely high and the doctor had major concerns but now with the help of the eye drops, taken nightly, it is at a normal level. The reason that I was going yearly, was because my Mom had Macular Degeneration, plus had Retinal Detachment and we were checking for those problems.I now go to the eye doctor every 6 months and have testing of course but I have lost some peripheral vision.
We wih you the very best in your recovery Jocelyn. You are such a lovely lady!

St. Lucy?

so what are St. Ethel & Fred the patron saints of??? warts?

St. Ricky must the patron saint of the bongos

just kidding, god you people are so stiff

Seriously Jocelyn, I sincerely hope all goes well, I have had eye injuries so I truly understand your pain. I had a motorcycle tire spoon split the white of my eye open AND YES IT HURT!!

The eyes are directly attached to the brain so there is no relief from pain unless you are unconscious, even then I think I was still in pain.

It will definately make you a stronger person.

Wishing you the best.

I would not bragomg about having an exam every two years! Any good Opthalmologist will tell you to have an eye exam EVERY YEAR! Your Eye's cannot be replaced, what are you thinking?

Oops! Mean to say would not be "bragging" about an eye exam every two years. Please rethink this, having gone that route I can tell you change your thinking.

Trumbull Fans: I go to one of the best Ophthalmologists in the State ... and have been told I only need to see him every 2 or 3 years.

I suspect yearly exams are only necessary for those who are predisposed to eye problems.

And by the way .. eye parts are being replaced today.

The Shadow,

Jocelyn is a perfect example of what is being said. Do as you see fit, I only know from experience and from the advice that I have been given, that two years, is too long between exams. End of discussion on my part!

Trumbull Fans: Jocelyn may not be a perfect example. What she fails to mention is how long it HAD been since she had a COMPLETE and THOROUGH eye exam.

I am NOT a doctor ... but it seems like her problem didn't just happen overnight. It seems like it is/was a condition with symptoms lasting years.

Having been born with amblyopia (a crossed eye), having surgery at 3, and then finally becoming near-sighted in my 30s, I still only see my opthamologist every 2 years. I'm sure when I'm older, it might be every year, but for now, this is what the eye doctor prescribes. I do wear glasses, primarily for driving, movies, etc.

not sure where this should go - what is happening to Regis and Kelly if Dr. Phil will be at 9:00 starting next Monday? Thanks for your help in answering my question - I very much enjoy the Regis & Kelly show

All of a sudden I developed a lot of floaters in one eye..I went to the Dr. and he discovered a tear in my retina and made an appt. to have it repaired by laser the next day (today) before it detaches. Very serious..don't wait..it could lead to blindness. I get an exam every year. Most insurance will pay for an annual exam.

For those of you who think that an eye exam every two years if just fine, let me say the following told by an Optholmologist. If you are over 40, every year is essential! There are Glaucoma problems, Retina problems and many others that could end with blindness and other serious problems.

Sorry to hear about your problems. I had a very bad eye since birth and saw an opthalmologist regularly. I also wish I knew that my eye was possibly predisposed. I went through the more invasive, painful miserable procedure and recovery you speak of 5 years ago. I still have incredible issues with light sensitivity. I never wore sunglasses and now I always do. How do you handle the bright lights on the air??? I'm sure there are all levels of this problem and the associated symptoms. I'm glad for you that you can return to work normally. I would be glad to share more info via email.

Best of luck to you.
