Jackson Story; Have You Lost Interest?
It has been nearly a week since the death of Michael Jackson. I turned on the TV today, and surfed the cable news stations. Today's top story? More Michael Jackson. Not just one story, but a seemingly endless train of reporters covering various angles about Jackson's estate, his family, and memorial services.
Right now my TV is off, because having those channels on is a waste of electricity. Surely there have to be some other newsworthy stories to cover.
Do the editorial decision makers at these stations know something that I don't? Is there really still an insatiable appetite for these stories? Maybe I'm not typical of the audience out there, but I feel like these mainstream news organizations are letting us down.
How do you feel? Are you captivated by all of the reports on the release of the newest details about Michael Jackson's will, or his father's latest press conference, or the mother who gave Jackson custody of her children?
I'm not going to deny that, as a story, the death of Michael Jackson has been every bit as much a spectacle as the life of Michael Jackson. But there's a difference between covering a story and obsessing over a story, and in my opinion mainstream national TV news crossed that line a few days ago.

As many on these boards have said over and over ... mainstream media has become a lost cause as a source for newsworthy news.
Wait until the Springer show begins as his Will is executed, and his tox report gets out. Creditors, family, friends, et al will be at each others' throats. AND the TV stations will be it all to you, 24/7 .... in HD.
How many days has the new media spent on Jackson? How many days has the news media spent on Obama's climate change bill. Does anyone know what is in this bill? I don't. But bits and pieces are coming out slowly. Why? Because the lamestream media is too busy pushing Michael Jackson and other unimportant BS.
The purpose of the press is to provide a check and balance on the government and keep it in line. Not to keep the people jaded with nonsense unless that is the media's intent.
Loved him as an entertainer, he definately had a gift to entertain. His private life is none of my business, and for the childrens sake feel the details should be private. JMHO
One thing I did notice is, noone has mentioned anything about Gale Storm dying, or Fred Travelino (SP?), and poor Farrah, Billy Mays and Ed McMahon got totally tossed aside. I think I've heard enough about Michael, let the guy RIP, and his family grieve in private.
But then I felt that there was, and still is, too much coverage on Swine Flu and other subjects as well.
I cant believe this "circus"........wait yes I can....
I just hope the kids are taken care of...........
Yes, I watched about the Will, but I have one question after all this. Supposedly, Michael Jackson was beaten emotionally and physically by his father. He said he never hit his kids cause he didn't want them to feel the fear he felt. Well, then what sense did it make that he gave custody to his mother? I'm assuming she still lives with his father, and if so, why would you put this in your Will knowing that what happened to you will get repeated again?
But bottom line, enough is enough. And stop with the blow-hole stuff about Obama. As if Dubyuh did so much better! It has nothing to do with this story, but the Republicans are obsessed with Obama in a totally unhealthy fashion.
I'm just wondering...
If you are so interested in seeing the "M.J." (as he has now become known) story die, then why did you bring it up in a blog to hash it all over again?
Enough, already.
LOL
hehehhhahaHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAA
here's a guy that does a movie-the Wiz with Ross, then says: I want to look like her
ok she's pretty, so he does her face like her
then, he keeps changing his face and bleaching his skin white until he looks like a PASTY NUTCRACKER
Michael had some severe mental issues going on, he really really needed therapy, but because he was a star what he got was whatever he wanted, including children to sleep with and an anesthesiologist to put him to sleep and wake him up.
I think some of the coverage has been ok in regards to the truth of what happened, the rest is overkill, ohh a tractor is going into Neverland possibly to dig a grave or build a shrine. big deal
as far as I am concerned cut the coverage till the autopsy report is in, give it 5 minutes them move on
a few have mentioned children being affected by the coverage
take your kids out of the bubble
the worst thing you can do is keep the truth from them, kids are smart
I understand you want to protect them, the best way to do that is to inform them, make them wise, the world is a tough place, pretending it isn't makes them weak and susceptible to fraud and scumbags.
As of MJ, stop the crap about the drugs until the toxicology report comes back, the crap about who the mother and father are of the kids?.....do DNA testing. But the guy is dead. All this 'maybe this and maybe that' isn't going to bring him back. Let him be remembered for what he did earlier in his career not what he's been accused of recently.
This is all one reason I don't buy a newspaper and I can change the channels or turn the TV off when the news is on. I check an online website daily, look at the headlines, if there is something I want to read, I read it otherwise I don't bother. Reporters/news media need to get a life.
yet, I do feel it is being over done.
My thoughts go out to his Family though
Glen
and a nut case
I made ONE comment, way above, the last one was NOT from me.
He was a STRANGE DUDE.
My condolences to his kids, people that screwed up should not be allowed to reproduce.
I can see down the road one of the kids asks:
"grandma, how come daddies face kept changing and turning whiter???"
or
"I didn't know dad had a nose, when was that? what happened to it?"
they are destined to be pretty messsed up, what a shame
Yes he was talented up to a point but really, what new, relevant or groundbreaking work has he done in the last 15-20 years. He spent all of his time/energy/money seemingly trying to be someone else. And covering up and paying off various childrens' families.
Perhaps he was filled with self-loathing.
All the media, "friends and family" buzzards are circling, picking apart this talented young boy and man who became a sad, pathetic, damaged (physically and mentally) creature.
Pity "his" children.
i doubt if Pharaoh (King)Tutankhamun got such a send off...
He earned a lot of Money but ended up broke because of his life style and drug addition.
For Obama to stand up there a say what a great man this looser was is the problem with this country these days.
MICHAEL JACKSON hung his 2 year old Kid out of the window that was on national TV. He was a pedophile and a drug addict. That is well known too.
And you are wrong when you make a statement that “Michael we all love you”. I HATED HIM!! So don’t put words in other’s mouths and I will stand right up in your face.
If you are trying to prove something by saying Make that Change, if make that change means being a liar I will be right in your face, I am not afraid of people like you.
MICHAEL JACKSON WAS NO GOOD!!!
IN THE SOUP did a show on clips of reporters with NOTHING TO SAY - very true!!
Sadly MJ will not go away even after he is buried.
PLEASE, PLEASE PLEASE, HAVE THE PEOPLE IN CHARGE @ WTNH TO AIR REGULAR PROGRAMMING ON THE DAY OF JACKSONS' MEMORIAL.
If you want to have a memorial for the thousands who have died in the Iraq, Pakistan and Afghanistan wars, I say YES.
But we have wasted a full week PLUS on Jackson. We have watched (or not) the opposition party in Iran get crushed by the leadership, we have missed news on further screwing of THIS country as our house has passed more OBANUNISM bills.
We have missed our sorry leaders pathethic performance in Hartford unable to pass a budget.
Let's get the NEWS back in NEWS programs and reporting. If I want to see the Jackson memorial I can watch E!
yes Michael Jackson was an icon, but so wasnt Elvis - I no sooner sadly heard that Farrah Fawcett had succumbed to cancer, though an eventual expected loss, within seconds you wouldnt have thought she has died, cause the media was all over Michael Jackson's sudden death. Im sick of hearing about it.
And Please tell your station we do not care to see the Jackson funeral, if it was a president yes but not that.
a musical icon, but enough is enough!!!!
When a soldier is killed defending our entire country he might get, if lucky, a 30 second mention on the news .All life is precious but lets get our priority straight.Heroes before zeroes
Bull... he paid dozens of bribes to keep from being convicted. Do you think those families which previously had been living with subsistance level incomes all had long lost relatives pass away and leave six figure inheritances by coincidence?
Betcha in a year or two all the sordid details will come out and we will discover that michael far far worse than any of us imagined.
Good riddance as far as I am concerned.
Gonna make the 92 riots look small...
BURN BABY BURN!!!
And disgusted by the ignorant uneducated(based on their horrible spelling and grammar)fools on here that want ot worship a sick, twisted, child-molesting monster.
Jamiie Fox says he was "ours" (meaning blacks.)
YOU CAN HAVE HIM.
we have breeding stupid people at a phenominal rate
and paying them welfare to breed some more
they forget the real MJ, GW's lies, the church's lies about priest raping kids, Palins lies
they do not even know recent history let alone the past 200 years
they make it up as they go
I love this:
I gots the right to this, I gots the rights to that
you "gots" the rights to nothing
read the Constitution it does not exist
the "Right" to "Happiness" was mentioned in the Declaration of Independance and was never made law
our founding fathers believed all men had unalienable rights, including the right to pursue happiness
it was never made law, although big shot lawyers like to play it up and twist into whatever they want, YOU, do not have those rights unless you can afford a big shot lawyer who can BS the judge and jury
....this just in, MJ's coffin will be at the memorial..........no word as to how many little boys can fit inside with him.........
Happy Channeling! JE
Same as with JOHNNY CASH... little was shown of him when he died... like John Denver, Johnny Cash admitted that he had problems and many of his songs were based on his life and times...
they wouldn't even let Geoff and Gil break in with news of the storms yesterday like they did 2 weeks ago
we had weather, LIVE LIVE from like 3-6
no, can't break in on the BS MJ show
what a joke that was
the King of Pop??
cmon he had like a couple of hits, there were bigger acts
MJ was not the first/only celeb to have died. I hope the Funeral Home paid upfront for its services.
Adoring a child molester , pedofile, with a bizzare view of life is a reflection of the downward spiral of American culture. The result is the current US President elected by a population who adores this freak of nature comoared to Our Founding Fathers and brave patriots who fought and died for our feedoms based on SELF RESPONSIBILITY.
I think we lost something along the way
respect
responsibility
brains
the media has been freakin out, drooling over him, every morning Robin Givens is dancing to his music, every friggin station broadcast his memorial for hours
they have in news been reporting the truth about his drug use, yet, leaving the child molestation issues alone
how do you figure they have been unfair???
the truth can never hurt you
it is time for America to come into the light on all issues and out of it's Fantasy Land
Mj had a thousand problems
Palin is a psycho
Gingrich is an adulterer liar
Clinton is an adulterer liar
McCain is an adulterer liar
those are facts
I wonder if all of this stems from our childhood, children in America tend to be coddled and treated like fairie princes and princesses and facts of life are kept from them by the parents to "protect" them
and as they grow older they remain in this "bubble", refuse to see any facts that might upset the cart
many of the young people I see today from 16-35 scare me
nothing is their fault, the world owes them, and the universe revolves around their daily hallucination
I call it:
"The World According To .....insert their first name here"
Are you trying to say that I'm not missing anything watching WTNH? -and other stations?
Since I'm not able to receive a signal since the SWITCH, apparently I don't need to watch TV after all!!
But, if there ever comes a day you're ready to change places, I'd gladly watch TV for one day...I MISS IT!!!
(can't you guys get a stronger signal?)
By the way, several of my friends can't get WTNH either (let alone the NY channels)
Just wondering if everyone forgot there's still people out there still UNABLE to get TV....
Amplified antennas and different converter boxes don't do the trick.
Calling the FCC doesn't get you anywhere..they said they're still getting swamped with people not getting signals
I am really sorry to hear about the loss of your TV signals. I am not an engineer, so I don’t know specifically what happened, but there were some complications with the switch from the analog signal to the new digital signal. I know this has affected a lot of TV viewers in markets all across the country.
I believe we have crews working to fix the problem. If you are willing to tell me where you live, I will pass it along to the engineering department to make sure they are aware that we do not have a strong enough signal in your particular location.
Hope you can watch again soon.

I live in Milford, my co worker lives in Bridgeport, and my good friend lives in Stratford.
ALWAYS before WTNH came in, clear as a bell! Other stations (for me, at least) also came in..CBS, NBC, FOX, CW, ..I knew I might not be able to unfortunately receive those, but to lose WTNH, which is VERY close by is bewildering, to say the least. I understood signals within a 20 mi radius should be able to reach us.
I've tried 10 different amplified antennas and 5 different makes of converter boxes. I've moved the TV close to the outside wall. We've done everything the FCC told us to do.
The "switch" was not what it was hyped up to be.."clear picture, better sound", we cannot even get a picture.
Thanks again for your concern.
:-( (WE MISS YOU)
If you are willing, please email me directly at:
ted.koppy@wtnh.com.
If you email me your address and phone number (you do not have to post it here on the blog), an engineer can call you and see if there is anything they can do to help resolve the situation.
I do not know of another way to contact you, so I hope you get this message.
