Path of Destruction:35 Miles

(The Courier, Mike Avery/AP Photo)
This is February and twisters are rare, nonetheless nearly 70 of them swooped down across five states in the south taking more than 50 lives and injuring hundreds. In west Tennessee officials say there is at least a 35 mile path of destruction. Included in that, Union University. Though many were injured no one was killed though the school was nearly destroyed. Classes are cancelled for at least two weeks so administrators can try to figure out where the southern Baptist school goes from here. There are countless stories about how students who were scared to death but rallied after the storm blew through to help those who were trapped.
What stories do you have from friends or relatives that went through last night's tragedy?

but after seeing that last night...i was not too sad cutting a woopper of a check for home heating fuel today...i'll pay for the fuel oil rather than those wicked storms...
What I think is a little disappointing is the selfish reaction of people here--this whole "well, it isn't anyone close to me, so what do I care?" Anyone else agree?
I don't know anyone there, but when I was in the service years ago, I volunteered for clean-up duty where a tornado had hit. It was an experience for me. Of course there were lots of big items scattered all around, but what really caught my attention was the amount of small items, pictures, ceramics, checkbooks, all the things that people take for granted.
We put all of the small items in boxes, and the owners came back the next day to go through those boxes. The tears were running for most people, glad to get the little things back.
Just imagine how you would feel if you went home, and there was no home there. I home the government acts quickly to rebuild.
I have a friend of mine who lives in upper Mississippi and I hope she is ok.
I know what those people have gone through ( I have lived through a tornado myself) and I how scary it is to hear one and live through one. And what it is like to pick up the pieces of your life and start over. It is very heart wrenching.
But I do agree though, it is very unusual to have tornadoes in February and at that amount too. Almost reminds me of the "Super Outbreak " in 1974.
P.S.
Glenna I don't think your little tiff with your sister has anything to do with anything....
