I don't know why this is making the news because there is nothing new about it. Not only is Connecticut corrupt, it is also very racist. I found that out when I was at Southern Connecticut State University. When 4 cops were called on a black student because he used the phrase "penis envy." I know, for a fact, the only reason why the cops were called was because the student was black. But because he wasn't called a 'nigger' or he wasn't female, it didn't matter.

I don't know. Could it maybe be white backlash? Are people getting tired of hearing about racism in everything including even Halloween now. Are people getting fed up with a crime being called a "hate crime" if it's against a black, but when 6 black kids almost pummel to death a white kid it's not a hate crime? Like I said, I don't know, but those questions are worth considering IMO.

I am an African American female from New Haven, CT who attends Central Connecticut State University. I have heard and I have also seen racism prevolent on this campus. Here it is 2007, and I am a walking testimony of racism. I know what it's like to be minority. I know what it's like to see racial slurs written in bathrroms, on lockers, on desks, tables, and chairs. It's one thing to have an opinion, but it's not right to maliciously try and hurt one. I understand that it's only words and freedom of speech, but some words have a harmful/ negative meaning attched to them. I feel like it's unfair that students/ anyone should have to be worried about safety due to racism. It was very evident today, on CCSU's campus; the lack of support/ respect that minorities get. There was a very select few standing while the Ebony Choral Ensemble sang the Negro National Anthem. I wonder what will it take for anough to be enough. I know that racism will never end, but we don't have tp accept it. CCSU definitely lacks diversity education. I feel as though with a bit more knowledge about diversity will help make CCSU a safer place to be. What I take from all of this negativity is the proudness that I have of myself and my fellow brothers and sisters for standing together on the issue and educating others about this issue. What I have done in order to make change on this camous is to join various groups/originizations on camous in order to understand all sides and to broaden my horizions. True Central does stands strong with its it "Start here, finish with a future" quote. I definitely started here, and will finish here in 2009 with a bright future, despite all the negativity, racism, sexism, and discriminations.

Could someone please explain to me what a Negro National Anthem is? I have never heard of it, and always thought if you lived in America, there was ONE National Anthem.

I do agree, there is no reason for racial slurs, name calling etc., not only for blacks, but any race. Yes, we white people get slurs as well as any other race, but it never seems to be that big of a deal when it is a white person.

As someone asked, are we sick of the racial slurs..YES, but we are also sick of slurs being made a huge deal of if the person is not white.

White people do NOT have White history month, white tv channels, all white beauty pagents, or white college funds. And we definately do NOT have a White National Anthem.

I used to work for the CSU system at offices that were at that time located on CCSU's campus. I found a shocking amount of racism (and a whole lot of other -isms too.) It was unbelievable and this is coming from a girl who grew up with an Archie Bunker for a dad. I was so happy to leave that job and continue my professional career in the corporate world where I flourished and found people who were much more evolved emotionally and intellectually. Who knew that there could be such ignorance and backwardness in an institution of higher education. I'm not shocked to see that it still exists, and all I have to say on the matter is that these things come from the top. Don't for a second believe it is primarily a student thing. I'd be looking elsewhere, toward the administration. Most of the worst are still there. The competent tended to move on to bigger and better things.

This is the Negro National Anthem, its appearant that many people, black and white, may be ignorant to the fact that there is a negro national anthem.

To go off the previous comments made, every crime made against a black person is not a hate crime, that is true, but when a black boy gets jumped by white boys and they only get probation and black boys jump a white boy and get sent to jail, Yes there is something wrong there. Especially when it starts from nuses being hung from a tree. Thats definetly a racial slur so you can't honestly tell me that when the white boys fought the black boy it didnt have anything to do with race/

Racism is still very alive and people try to ignore it and look the other way. We are not blowing all these situations out of proportion. The reason it is such a big deal when its against minorities is beacuse it happens so often and has been happenning for so long. Dont get me wrong, I'm not ignorant to the fact that whites may get racial slurs and be discriminated upon but if ya'll feel like its a major problem say and/or do something about it and not to justify that it being done to whites is okay but when you're a minority that is continually discriminated upon, that is called a nigger on more than one occasion, you're gona feel some type of wy about the race that does it to you. We are tired of just letting it happen and ignoring it, it needs to stop.

The racism rally at CCSU was one small step to the awareness of the racism that still lives and a flash of hope that someday it will die out.

Also, It is a well known fact that Blacks are outnumbered in America. Black History Month is needed to spread our history that is not taught to us in school, We learn about Europe, WW1, WW2, the civil war...some Martin Luther King Jr., some Malcolm X, Slavery...well you get it but that is realy just a small portion of our history. Its important to know where you came from and just going off school education is not enough for black america, minorities period, to know where they came from but its definetly enough for white america to know their roots.

Originally written by Johnson for a presentation in celebration of the birthday of Abraham Lincoln. This was originally performed in Jacksonville, Florida, by children. The popular title for this work is:

'THE NEGRO NATIONAL ANTHEM'

Lift every voice and sing
Till earth and heaven ring,
Ring with the harmonies of Liberty;
Let our rejoicing rise
High as the listening skies,
Let it resound loud as the rolling sea.
Sing a song full of the faith that the dark past has taught us,
Sing a song full of the hope that the present has brought us,
Facing the rising sun of our new day begun
Let us march on till victory is won.

Stony the road we trod,
Bitter the chastening rod,
Felt in the days when hope unborn had died;
Yet with a steady beat,
Have not our weary feet
Come to the place for which our fathers sighed?
We have come over a way that with tears have been watered,
We have come, treading our path through the blood of the slaughtered,
Out from the gloomy past,
Till now we stand at last
Where the white gleam of our bright star is cast.

God of our weary years,
God of our silent tears,
Thou who has brought us thus far on the way;
Thou who has by Thy might
Led us into the light,
Keep us forever in the path, we pray.
Lest our feet stray from the places, Our God, where we met Thee;
Lest, our hearts drunk with the wine of the world, we forget Thee;
Shadowed beneath Thy hand,
May we forever stand.
True to our GOD,
True to our native land James Weldon Johnson June 17, 1871 - June 26, 1938

If there are racial slurs written on walls at the CCSU's campus, then I agree with Jill, the higher ups need to get to the bottom of it. If it is coming from higher ups, or they are allowing it, then they should be investigated, and if found guilty should be terminated.

As far as history, when I was in school, our history books taught us about slavery etc., so unless they have changed the history books, how can a black person say they haven't learned about their history. If I learned about it back in the 50's through my history books, why do we need a month EVERY year for blacks to learn about their heritage? I don't think history books are that far outdated, as I know my children learned more about black history when they were in school then even I did. So obviously the books are being updated.

As far as the noose thing, not only were they used for blacks, many, many other people were hung as well. Anytime I see a noose on tv, or movies, I do NOT automatically think of a black person being hung. How about most western movies were you see white people being hung? Back then, that is how the bad guy was dealt with.

It also would be nice if the black people did not try to still hold white people responsible for what happened 200 years ago. I was not around, so whatever went on, has nothing to do with me. As far as people being racist, there are just as many minority racists as there are white, and at times I feel they are more racist.

I don't believe that evey time a white person is attacked by a black person, the black person goes to jail, or the white kids just get a slap on the wrist. I do know one thing, if a black is attacked, the NAACP is all over it, but if a white is attacked, there is no NAAWP to get involved.

Why do we all celebrate MLK day by having no school, no work etc. etc., yet I don't see any JFK holiday. He was assassinated as well, but we don't celebrate his birthday.

As I stated before, yes, there is still racial issues, and I think it is a horrid thing, but I also think the NAACP jumps on every little thing and sometimes blows it way out of proportion, which to my way of thinking makes it worse.

Hopefully I live long enough to see racial tention go away, as I have friends of all nationalities and colors. I judge people by how they treat me, not by their color, religious or even sexual preferences. As they say, live and let live, we are all entitled to live our lives as we choose, and should not be judged by anyone cause it doesn't agree with their way of thinking.

I have a student at Central. Racial problems are not as bad as the news makes it. CCSU has kids from all over so who knows.That said, I see more rascism comming from the Black Preachers and Radio speakers. The anti white movement is alive and kicking.

Listen to 1230thebuzz.com and learn why you hear all this racial crap. They preach anti white garbage all day long to their brothers and sisters.Seems like alot of this Noose stuff and other Sensational stuff is part of it.The papers blame a white kid and they don't know who did it! Its like saying there was a robbery no one witnessed so it must of been a black guy!

"Jesse Jackson told Barrak Obamma that he is acting to white" Anyone see a problem with that? Seems to me that the Blacks in America are becomming the Biggots! and they are the white haters. Learn what is going on before you make judgement.By the way all blacks are not African and they all don't share the same thoughts of being a white hater.matter of fact they dont even get along well.

I believe people should be treated the same no matter who they are or where they came from but "The EBONY CHORAL ENSEMBLE sang the NEGRO NATIONAL ANTHEM" proves that we now want our cake and eat it too!

Once we start being AMERICANS and not African Americans and sing the OUR NATIONAL ANTHEM - the Star Spangled Banner in the US - I don't see how things can change or improve.

Are there any other singing groups on the campus that have their own chorus and national anthems?? I think not.

I think its time to write a Caucasian National Anthem, form the NAAWP, start broadcasting and all white TV channel, start all white scholarships to college, have a white history month and ban the use of the words honky, cracker and white bread. Sounds a little ridiculous doesn't it? Yet we have all that for blacks. I am sick and tired of the double standard, people need to grow thicker skin and realize there are ignorant people and to take what they say from the source. In my opinion the whole racial thing is made even worse by the amount of attention the media pours onto it, if the media would stop paying attention to it I bet most of it would just go away.

Jay...I think the reason the media gets into it so much is due to Sharpton and Jackson. They shove their noses into every little thing, and of course Sharpton has his own radio show. Look how rude he was to Imus when he went on his show. As soon as the microphones were off, Sharpton left the room. If I was Imus I would have walked out, as there was no reason he had to be treated so rudely.

ftec...You will notice I never used the term AA. A very good friend of mine, who is AA, told me that term is used WAY too much. Like she said, people like herself that actually came from Africa and are black, can refer to themselves as AA, but feels black people who are born here, like her husband, are not. If your born and raised here, then you are not AA.

First black people didn't want to be called Negroes, so the politically correct term went to people of color, then after years of that, it went to just plain black, and now it has gone to AA. Why is it that to be politically correct, every few years black people have to be called by a different name?

If people are Italian, French, English or whatever, then they are that nationality for life. We don't go around calling ourselves Italian Americans or stuff like that, even though our ancestors came from a foreign country, yet black people feel they should be referred to as AA because their ancestors came from Africa. Sorry, it isn't making sense to me. If your black, your black, period. What happen to all the black folks who said they were black and proud of it? If they are so proud, why keep changing what you wish to be called every so many years?

Said it before, as many others have, we are all AMERICANS, so get over the stupid name calling, and try and get along. Don't we have enough hatred going on in the Middle East, with our troops at risk each minute, and even ourselves after 9-11? This is a time we should be sticking as close together as possible, but instead, we are fighting amongst ourselves.

God help us all!!!

Racism has been around since the beginning of man. Just because we do not like it does not mean that it will go away. Some individuals are more racist than others and others are fanatical about it. As much as I would like racism to disappear, it will not. We are humans and this is not a perfect world. Certainly our court and law enforcement systems should try extra hard to avoid it. Will they? I do not know. Move on, get over it. Do the next right thing. Quit your whining and be strong. I realize that Americans have become very weak and have little or no backbone, and this includes most of us, all ethnicities. If racisim bothers you that much, do you like yourself?

I would never be so presumptous as to tell Black People who they should choose as their leaders. It's up to them. But I can say that if I were black, I sure wouldn't look to a black who benefits and prospers on the black man being held down as Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton and others do. Something is wrong when a black student who wants to apply himself at school to get a good education is shunned by other blacks, and accused of "acting white"

How come Blacks are not racists? I NEVER herd of a Black person being called one. Do all Blacks like whites,Latinos and so on? They never look at a person for their race or color? Now thats pretty good! Have you ever herd of a Black being charged with a hate crime? They attack Jews in westville all the time.

Anyone want to bet when we will see the race riots like in the 60s? All the signs are there for one.

Dear Anonymous,

Apparently it was "Dog" Chapman's son who sold the tape to the National Enquirer. It seems as though Chapman's objection to his son dating a black woman wasn't because of her race but rather, her attitude. In the tape, Chapman was acknowleging to his son that he has used the "N" word in the past and was afraid the girl would expose that. In the tapeed converstaion, he also acknowleged that using that word was wrong. But never the less, he used it, and will now pay for his freedom of speech. IMO, this differs from the Imus controversy in that Imus said it over public airwaves. Dog Chapman was in a private conversation with his son. (or so he thought)
