I remember when Mother Teresa was pulling maggots off people in Calcutta or was it Bombay India....Where the worm does not die,is a quote in the Bible for a decription of Hell. The worm does not die because it is a maggot and it transforms into a fly.The dog was in living hell.A down right discrace.~Peace Glenna~

Hello everyone this is Dr.J, Mickey's doctor. First of all I just wanted you to all know how incredibly impressed I was to see Sara Welch show up today at my hospital to check up on Mickey's recovery process. Never before have I encountered a news
correspondent who cares enough to on their own time come and check back after the initial story. So my hat is off to Sara, thank you. Your love of animals really shines through.
As for the little "miracle man" he is happier than ever. Though he is still wearing the lamp shade and his wounds are dressed he is extremely excited about his new found fame and is loving all of the attention. Once the itchy part of healing is over I will take off the collar and set him free for his second chance at finding a family to love. One person who was interested in adopting him said "He will be the king in my house" You got to love it.
Anyway, thank you all for caring and I will do my best to keep you all in the loop.

Hi Dr. J. Thank you for taking such good care of Mickey, and yes, Sara was great to do an update for us, we appreciate it.

Wish I was able to have a dog here, but not possible, but have had many in the past, and cats too. Just something about animals that makes your day better, especially when it might not have been your best day, they seem to brighten it. God bless them, they give 110% to you.

Take special care of Mickey, and hope to see an updated picture of him, maybe with you, Sara, and hopefully with his new found adoptive family.

Thank you again Sara, and to you also Dr. J. We are all excited to see Mickey when he is totally recovered. Bless you for helping him, that little guy went through WAY too much...:-)

I'm happy to hear the good news...thanks for
the update Sara!
Having had my own share of pets while my kids
were growing up..it's a sad day to hear things
like this still happen in our world.
I find it interesting that folks seem to be
more outraged about a tragedy happening to
an animal then they are their next door
neighbor.
I'm going to put my "broken record" back on
and say....WE NEED TO START HOLDING PEOPLE
ACCOUNTABLE FOR THEIR ACTIONS!!!

This is great news, and I am so happy for Mickey. Please tell everyone you know that this is unfortunately not an isolated incident. There are many, many shelters and rescues in CT and elsewhere that deal with these kinds of disturbing incidences every day. I volunteer for a local rescue, and I cannot tell you how many beautiful dogs end up in the pounds filthy, starving, and covered in fleas and mange. I cannot tell you how many lovely cats we take in who are in the same condition or worse because they have been thrown out the windows of moving cars, left behind (intentionally) when their families moved away, or intentionally tormented. We live in a disposable society. When will people learn to be responsible and think about living in harmony with each other, the earth, and all living creatures? Please support this dog, but don't forget to support your local shelters and rescues every day (financially or by volunteering), because they work tirelessly to save as many of these animals as they can. Many local veterinarians work with these organizations. The next time you pay an expensive vet bill, remember that many vets donate their services, or provide them at a reduced rate to shelters and pounds. Do NOT buy from pet shops...there is a rescue for ANY kind of animal that you are interested in adopting, including purebred dogs and cats, reptiles, birds, hamsters, guinea pigs, and chinchillas. Do your research so that you are prepared ahead of time for responsible pet ownership. Don't take on the responsibility of a pet if you cannot afford the time or money required to take care of it. Peace.

Wonderful news about Mickey! Now... to the people that know who is responsible for this neglect, please call the local authorities and report it. You can remain anonymous. Animal abuse and neglect is against the law-- it is ILLEGAL. Please do the right thing and report what you know. Thank you.

A message to all:
If you do not want a lifetime commitment to a pet... DO NOT GET ONE.
If you do not want to take time with a pet... DO NOT GET ONE.
If you do not like animals but want to try it... DO NOT GET ONE.
If you like only kittens and puppies but hate when they get older... DO NOT GET ONE.
If you do not want to spend money on a pet for vet care or their other needs... DO NOT GET ONE.
If you do not see yourself having a pet no matter what your circumstance, i.e. if you move to another home, if you meet someone that doesn't like them, if once you have children and no longer want the pet... DON'T GET ONE!

PLEASE SPARE THESE ANIMALS THE BROKEN SPIRIT THEY GET AFTER BEING HOMELESS AND ABANDONED FROM YOUR SELFISHNESS! DON'T GET A PET IF YOU DON'T MAKE A SINCERE, LOVING, GENUINE COMMITMENT TO IT.

Poster Anonymous said it well, however those statements also go for kids.

If you cannot and will not take care of them, don't have them. If you have them and refuse to take care of them and teach them right and wrong, please give them up for adoption.

I have my own kids, but most of my pets (not the fish though) are rescues.

Nothing like a pre-owned cat to make your life interesting!

Ditto ditto ditto

I am beginning to think people should get a permit for pets and if they pass that test, then they can have a permit to have kids..2

Thanks to Sarah and Dr J for updates

I never mind paying my vet bills. Our vet is quite the person...and he donates his time like Dr. J. when animals are in trouble. Too bad other professions aren't like that. Way to go, Dr. J. Thanks Sara for a great story...Ed

It seems every day I read something about animal cruelty or something regarding pitbulls like the latest, the shelter caretaker being attacked. I am the owner of a pit bull mix and I trust him with my life. I am saddened everytime I see something about puppy theft and attacks. These animals never have a fair chance. We were lucky enough to get our dog as a puppy and raised him and trained him ourselves. I trust him with our 6 cats, our 1 year old godaughter and my 89 year old grandmother. What is wrong with people that they can't show animals, another living thing, the respect they deserve? If people treat animals this way is it any wonder all the terrible things that happen to the people of this world? If you can't afford an animal, or can't show it the same respect and compassion you would expect for yourself or your childre, DON'T GET ONE! Thanks for giving me an outlet to vent my frustration against such inhumanity and ignorance.
