I believe that racism or other forms of prejudice anywhere need to be stopped. Now, you brought up an interesting issue. Does this matter, because it was in an e-mail and not voiced out loud? I am not sure if it was considered a "work" e-mail or not. If you were using your company's computers to send a message under their company's name for the address, well then I do believe that it was alright for it to be brought to the knowledge of the public. A personal e-mail account on the other hand, I would not have a problem with it. You are associating your name and your personal feelings with the company's name when you use their computer and their address. Don't get me wrong, it was not the right thing to do, and no one should think that way.

I'm sorry. I did not read the entire blog post and did not realize that it was from a personal e-mail account on a personal computer on personal time. In this case, it is not morally okay for what the person did, but should not have been brought to the attention of the public. I am disgusted at the actions of this person, and they should have realized who they sent the message to. The receiver can do what ever they want with the message. That is where this person got in trouble.

Well since they may or may not be cops, it is something to be concerned with. If a cop happens to be like a Mark Furhman (minus the fact that the media consults this racist pig), then many people will fall victim to his or their abuse of power in the name of their personal hatred. That being said, I don't even know what the emails said or who it was by.

I believe that personal email should be off limits to public scrutiny. I receive emails that I find offensive because they are ethnically motivated (Italian, Jewish, Irish, etc..) or insulting because of hair color, religious or sexual preferences. I have the right to read them, forward them, or in most cases delete them. You cannot tell me that blacks and hispanics or other ethnicities for that matter, don't circulate jokes about caucasians. We just don't hear about it for some reason. If we start infringing on a person's private emails.. we are going down a very dangerous, slippery slope. Our first amendment rights to free speech will be impacted or lost. Men and women are losing their lives to protect our rights.Color, gender, religious preferences don't matter to these soldiers. Freedom does.
Could racisim be rampant in the department? Could be..I don't work there and don't know anyone who does. I do know many local police officers and quite truthfully, race is not a part of the "brotherhood" these guys and gals see themselves as the truly special people they are,and they really do have a brother/sisterhood that goes beyond the color of a persons skin.

When you "FORCE" a 6 or 7 year old child to participate in the e-mail there is no other way to look at it...you are a "sick bastard"......

Times like this, you can take the damn constitution and burn the damn thing..........."freedom" is SOOOOO much misinterpreted in this rediculous society...................

John, No one in THIS situation forced a child to look at anything. Let's stick with the facts of this situation, not bring your anger and hatred into it. Perhaps you'd rather live in a less ridiculous society? such as in the middle east or China where there is no "Freedom" and no protections for you to have your beliefs? You wouldn't be able to blog your opinions freely.

Hmm,Without knowing what the STATE considers rascism many seem ready to Hang the person involved! Offensive now a days could mean a way for a persson to get a heafty lump of cash! Funny they do not disclose the records of the Black trooper on 91 North above Htfd. I have never in 3 years seen him with a Minority person pulled over! I have noticed that for years. I have watched him. I think his records should be looked at. Rascism can work any way. And it does everyday in a suttle way. BTW The SP have attitudes that they are above the law-Until that changes they will do what they want!

Personal home computers should NOT be controlled by your employer.

I do not condone what these troopers did but we are treading on dangerous ground. I do believe in the freedom of speech. People are dying every day so that we can KEEP this right.

Would you WANT someone else looking at your home computer??? Even if you have nothing to hide it is a serious infringement on our privacy.

Unless you are under investigation for something your privacy should stay intact.

First, I think that any kind of racism is a big wrong and should not be allowed. Just like people cant look at dirty stuff
on the computer. I feel that freedom of
speech does not and should not include out
right attacks on racism, religion, polit-
ical views or to narrow it some more any
kind of direct personal attack.

BUT..Mark my friend. I do feel it is 100%
irrelevant what computer was used and when
it was used. I use my computer here at work for the horses and to post here. Of
course I do not do anything dirty or like
that. But, a person should be allowed to
use personal use of computer if their work
is caught up..Why not? It seems to be a
real issue with some employers.. Which I really scratch my head at. The Corporate
World as some real slave drivers out there

You have to remember that the NAACP is the most racial thing going. I do not hate anyone for their color, religion or choice of anything. What I do hate is people being stupid. When people send e-mails like that, they are being completly stupid and should be removed from society, in a strong way. I wonder if we could set up a NAACP for other ethinicites. National Asso for the Advancment of Caucasion People. Probably not, its too racial.

Racism should not be allowed. This is true, but it is here anyway.

There is racism in all enthinicities.

Freedom of speech is just that freedom of speech.

Careful there Jonathan you are using your right to freedom of speech, quite racially I might add.
Are you to be "taken out" now?

I have been called every name in the book, big deal. The commandment says don`t bare fasle wittness against your neighbor. That simply means if someone is going to try to get a job don`t run ahead of that person and tell the boss a bunch of lies and then send your cousin down to get the job....God made the Nations,we all have the right to our Nationalities .I think every single Black person that has a heritage in Africa that has a complaint here in American needs to spend 2 week`s in kenya. Then you wouldn`t spend your time trying to find charecter defects in people of other Nationalities. The same goes for all people of all Nationalities, you don`t like the deep Mix we have in this Nation, find where your Ancestors came from and spend some time there, and remember when you come home to America how it feel`s.We have men and Women getting their legs and arms blown off and giving up their life`s because we are at war.And someone is complaining about school yard words that make there way out of the playard at school.Get a grip.Everybody call`s everybody names and titles and they do it under their breath if not out loud.Jesus called the Know it all`s a brood of Vipers.Get a part time job take your own inventory until you can decern properly and stop trying to find somthing in your brothers life when your`s needs fixin.~Peace Glenna~

It is unfair for a place of employment to hold
people "accountable" in their own homes.
The emails were NOT done on the state of CT's
computers and NOT done on the state of CT's
time.
As far as pointing out the color of those at
the graduation ceremony that has nothing to
do with this topic.
Those that graduated passed numerous tests
consisting of physical, written and oral to
be considered.
I would much rather feel that those who respond
if I dial 911 are QUALIFIED rather then what
their heritage is Mark.

Just about every post I have read makes a good point. No, there should NOT be racism, but to be totally honest, there is, not only for blacks, but other ethnic groups, including whites.

I have recieved stupid "white trash" jokes, but I usually just dump them and also e-mail the person to please not send me ethnic jokes, as I don't appreciate them.

I didn't like what I saw on tv, especially with a child involved, but I also think the NAACP jumps on every little thing they can to cause problems, and to me, this promotes more hate. And I definitely do not think a personal computer should be controlled by anyone's employer, or anyone else for that matter.

Glenna..if someone is bothering you with e-mails, I would not leave a checkmark in the box that says Allow messages from. Like anything, your always going to get the wise guys who have to act stupid.

I really don't care if they were sent from a personal computer and/or on personal time. The fact is that the senders and recipients are connected via work with the State Police, and this creates a hostile, racist working environment. Sgt Crumbie graciously gives the benefit of the doubt to recipients, that he doesn't believe all are racist, but that the very fact of a large list of recipients suggests the casual attitude about and insensitivity to racism. Well, I would add that the fact that the official spokesperson stresses the facts of it being done with a personal computer and on personal time ALSO demonstrates a complete lack of sensitivity to the issue.

Racisim is not the only kind of discrimin-
ation. That I can a testify to 100%. Not
religion or politics either. A person can
get singled out for no reason whatsoever. It
is sad really.

CJP Thanks for the horse tip. I think they

Let's stop playing the race card everytime we
find something offensive. I have seen alot of
"white trash" humor online and frankly, I
laugh at it. Racially based humor usually
pokes fun at stereotypes. Have a sense of
humor people!! Laugh at yourself, laugh at
others. Just laugh! It's good for you! As
long as we are all laughing, no ones burning
a cross on your lawn or burning your church
down. Every race and ethnic group has it's
stereotypes. Not every Black is on welfare,
not every Italian is in the Mafia, not every
Irishman is an alcholic, as long as you know
those facts, enjoy the jokes. Remember...laugh
it's good for you!

I got the email of the guy passed out at KFC - I thought this guy has a sense of humor-after all he did pose for that photograph. I did not find it offensive -its just a bit of humor. I don't get offended easily so I am not as PC as most people 'claim' to be. No matter what you say or do it will offend somebody somewhere.
