Racist E-mail At CT State Police
By now you have heard about the racist images apparently sent around to and by some members of the Connecticut State Police. The Public Safety Commissioner has ordered an Internal Affairs investigation. That division recently had to be completely revamped because of a scandal revealed in a report prepared by the New York State Police.
The e-mails surfaced this week and seemed to re-inforce the allegations of racism by Connecticut State Police Sgt. Andrew Crumbie of West Hartford. Crumbie says he doesn't believe all those on the e-mail list of this stuff is a racist...but that it shows the casual attitude about this type of crude, insensitive behavior.
The Connecticut Confrence of Chapters of N.A.A.C.P. now have called for a U. S. Justice Department investigation into allegations of racism in the State Police. Crumbie is just one of about six African-American members of the department who have made some sort of complaint about racism.
At the State Police Trooper graduation ceremony at the University of Connecticut today, it was hard not to notice that of the 60 new troopers..just one appeared to be a person of color...a couple were Hispanic and a couple were Asian.
The official spokesman for the Connecticut State Police continues to stress that the controversial e-mails were posted from personal computers and not on state time. An attorney for the the N.A.A.C.P. says there is reason to believe that is not the case and has asked for records of all e-mails of all State Police personel involved.
Does it really matter? Or do you believe that personal e-mail should be off limits....even if it is hateful, hurtful, and may show a bias to a segement of the population?

Could racisim be rampant in the department? Could be..I don't work there and don't know anyone who does. I do know many local police officers and quite truthfully, race is not a part of the "brotherhood" these guys and gals see themselves as the truly special people they are,and they really do have a brother/sisterhood that goes beyond the color of a persons skin.
Times like this, you can take the damn constitution and burn the damn thing..........."freedom" is SOOOOO much misinterpreted in this rediculous society...................
I do not condone what these troopers did but we are treading on dangerous ground. I do believe in the freedom of speech. People are dying every day so that we can KEEP this right.
Would you WANT someone else looking at your home computer??? Even if you have nothing to hide it is a serious infringement on our privacy.
Unless you are under investigation for something your privacy should stay intact.
on the computer. I feel that freedom of
speech does not and should not include out
right attacks on racism, religion, polit-
ical views or to narrow it some more any
kind of direct personal attack.
BUT..Mark my friend. I do feel it is 100%
irrelevant what computer was used and when
it was used. I use my computer here at work for the horses and to post here. Of
course I do not do anything dirty or like
that. But, a person should be allowed to
use personal use of computer if their work
is caught up..Why not? It seems to be a
real issue with some employers.. Which I really scratch my head at. The Corporate
World as some real slave drivers out there

There is racism in all enthinicities.
Freedom of speech is just that freedom of speech.
Careful there Jonathan you are using your right to freedom of speech, quite racially I might add.
Are you to be "taken out" now?
I don't know about your job, but I would be careful if I were you "playing" the ponies at work. That my friend might just get you into some serious trouble.
people "accountable" in their own homes.
The emails were NOT done on the state of CT's
computers and NOT done on the state of CT's
time.
As far as pointing out the color of those at
the graduation ceremony that has nothing to
do with this topic.
Those that graduated passed numerous tests
consisting of physical, written and oral to
be considered.
I would much rather feel that those who respond
if I dial 911 are QUALIFIED rather then what
their heritage is Mark.
I have recieved stupid "white trash" jokes, but I usually just dump them and also e-mail the person to please not send me ethnic jokes, as I don't appreciate them.
I didn't like what I saw on tv, especially with a child involved, but I also think the NAACP jumps on every little thing they can to cause problems, and to me, this promotes more hate. And I definitely do not think a personal computer should be controlled by anyone's employer, or anyone else for that matter.
Glenna..if someone is bothering you with e-mails, I would not leave a checkmark in the box that says Allow messages from. Like anything, your always going to get the wise guys who have to act stupid.
As far as being a comedian, good, we all need a good sense of humor, and friends with them too...:-)
Have a SUPER weekend all!!
ation. That I can a testify to 100%. Not
religion or politics either. A person can
get singled out for no reason whatsoever. It
is sad really.
CJP Thanks for the horse tip. I think they
know by now. I always be sure to use a legal
site and get my work done. I spend lots of
time here too.

find something offensive. I have seen alot of
"white trash" humor online and frankly, I
laugh at it. Racially based humor usually
pokes fun at stereotypes. Have a sense of
humor people!! Laugh at yourself, laugh at
others. Just laugh! It's good for you! As
long as we are all laughing, no ones burning
a cross on your lawn or burning your church
down. Every race and ethnic group has it's
stereotypes. Not every Black is on welfare,
not every Italian is in the Mafia, not every
Irishman is an alcholic, as long as you know
those facts, enjoy the jokes. Remember...laugh
it's good for you!
The short version -- be nice and be respectful of other's opinions, even if they don't agree with yours, or your comment may be deleted.
