Start the Super Hype: Lets Have Your Pick
Ok Patriots fans. I know. Its rough. After coming thisclose to another trip to the superbowl, Brady and the boys will be playing golf for the rest of the winter. Doggonit.
So now, its between the Bears and the Colts. For me, the question who to root for is sticky. I grew up in northern Wisconsin, where it is emblazoned into your soul to HATE the Chicago Bears. Yes, hate is a strong word. But in this case, fitting.
Having that said, for a couple of years, I lived and worked in enemy territory. Chicago is great city, and there is a tiny part of me that understands that city's passion for da Bears. It is religion there (as it is in Green Bay). This past Sunday the Bear game did a 76 share! Half of all of the existing TV sets in the Chicago area were tuned to that game. Huge!
So who are you rooting for? Colts or Bears? And why?
And Pats fans, we'll get 'em next year.

The Patriots are Boston's team and Boston is no where around here! Before they won those Super Bowls, no one in CT knew who they were, cared about who they were and still did not know where they were from as "New England" did not exactly tell us.
Darren. Where do you get the idea that Chicago is "enemy territory?" This is the type of BS on 8 that pisses me off about you guys. You 'assume' too much to begin with. You assume that the Patriots are our team. This is not Red Sox/Patriots/Bruins/Celtics nation, this is Giants/Jets/Rangers/Devils/Islanders/Knicks/nets/Yankees/Mets Nation. I wish that once and for all 8 would get that through your heads. This is not Boston. This is not Providence. This is not even Hartford. This is the New York area. You people from other parts of the country come here and you try to change who we are and move towards a city and region that we do not know about and some of us hate the fact that 'local' news media who's master are out of New England want to force us into a Boston/New England thought. Leave that way of thinking to Hartford (who is not near Boston either) and places near RI and MA. You people (8) are in New Haven, CT. On the New York Coty METRO-North(as in north of the big city) line. Not the "Boston-South" or "New England-South" line, the NYC METRO-North line. The sooner that you out of towners and New England transplants get that through your arrogant heads, the sooner 8 can officialy start representing CT instead of the interests of Boston/New England.
Why do you STILL have that New England weather map? Where is the Tri-state map?
As a Red Sox fan and life long New Havener I take offense to your inuendo that we all must be New York Fans.............
I must stay here to remind 8 and alleged viewers on this blog how they operate and how they keep trying to brainwash people to their point of view. If I don't do it, you know 8 would never try and come clean. Someone has to expose those who claim to speak for us but do the bidding of Boston and Providence.
Carol:
Going with the flow is how people get into drug use. Going with the flow is how people only hear one point of view. Going with the flow is how a news channel who claims to represent CT and even it's own New Haven represent New England and Boston. Carol, go with my flow.
Fatmoron:
Your name says it all. I don't have to move ot NY as I live in the NY area of CT. You can say that I am already there. Now explain the Boston thing to me fats.
You say that CT is not NY and it's not Boston? CT is in the NYC merto area and CT IS NOT ANYWHERE near the Boston metro area. So why must 8 report on THEIR sports teams? I had to confront the New Haven Register (which 8 has very close ties to...) on this BS also.
In New Haven to NY, people are NY sports fans. Some teams transcend regions. Many people all over the country are Cowboys, Lakers and back in the day, Chicago Bulls fans. However, 8 does not report on there sports as local. Again 8, WE ARE NOT IN THE BOSTON AREA. So 8, stick to NY sports only. Stop making us look like fools.
Your gross exaggerations, broad generalizations and inability to differentiate between personal thoughts and corporate policy continues to amuse me. Thanks.
We will continue to report on professional sports from teams in both Boston and New York and New Jersey because there are people living in Connecticut who are fans of those teams.
I have neither the time or desire to argue with someone who obviously has limited capacities. You say in your post and I quote " Stop making us look like fools." May I say you do not need wtnh to help you in this area, you do fine on your own.
GO SOX!!!
Too funny, and right on. Those were my thoughts immediately.
And since I'm a Packers fan, I can't find it in my heart to root for the Bears, so I guess I'm going with the Colts.
Jeff:
"...Gross exaggerations, broad generalizations and inability to differentiate between personal thoughts and corporate policy..?" I do make some broad generalizations, but so does 8 in it's assumption that the whole state wants something to do with Boston sports or New England weather maps. My generalizations are really rooted in 8 being located in New Haven, CT and not Boston, Providence or Hartford. Therefore, any news or sports should (in theory) begin from a 360 radius from New Haven, with New Haven being the center of attention since you are the only state-wide TV channel outside of the Hartford area.
Now Jeff on your second point, I nt only deal with my personal thoughts because they are mine and they reflect the general populous of southern and western CT. Now this "corporate policy" thing is another issue. I don't follow any corporate policy. What is this "corporate policy?" I am sure that I have spelled it out on here plenty of times, but I would like to hear it from you or anyone else at 8. I have a feeling that this "corporate policy" has something to do with having your station being Boston and New England oriented. "Corporate policy" is also biased and a corporate point of view. Given that your corporate masters are in Providence, RI, it is clear why you must show Boston sports. Now, please explain these "polices."
Now Jeff, I also wrote before that there are many people living in CT who love the Cowboys, Lakers, Redskins, Bulls and now Miami Heat and Dallas. Where is you dedicated time to those team's exploits? In other words, show me in detail why you MUST worry about Boston? Do you have some type of corporate deal with some Boston TV channels in order for them to continue to try and penetrate our market?
Fatmoron:
Your names tells a lot about your personality and maybe appearance...
Laurie:
Who cares if you are a New Haven "resident?" Given the many colleges around that area, there will always be residents either from out in New England or other places around the nation. I only speak for natives. Also, CT IS a suburb of NYC. It is plain geography. The city is that large. Why do you think that you are on a commuter railroad line called METRO-NORTH? I also NEVER wrote that people in New Haven had to commute to NYC. That is your conjecture. Now Laurie, PROVE to me the CT is in the Boston metro area. I can PROVE to you in more ways than one that CT is in the NYC metro area and media market. Your turn...
Oh yeah, about that brainwashing... Your thoughts are a result of what you have suffered from 8's intensive programming of the CT mind towards Boston and New England. Darren Kramer, see what you started...
Lastly, everytime the Patriots won the Super Bowl, they ALWAYS said that it was for Boston. A buddy of mine used to think that since they had the words "New England" in front of their name that it was our team. I had to keep telling him that it was Boston's team. Our teams are the Jets and Giants. Even if the Giants have some of the ugliest uniforms in the NFL.
I'll go with the Colts, though I was really pulling for the Pats this Sunday. Manning's a great QB and has finally freed himself from the "choke Hold" of past play-offs.
The Bears winning just does nothing for me.
By the way, most of the state's residents are not in either the NYC or Boston metro area...
None of the state is in the Boston metro area. The most populous portion of the state IS in the NYC metro area. I think some people in CT are stuck in limbo about where fit in. I can understand it. The so-called local news makes you think that everything revolves around Hartford (non-politically) and that what Hartford views itself as, the whole state should as well.
No I know that you can make the claim that I am doing the same, but the most popular part of the state is nearer NYC. The least popular part is nearest to Boston, which that part is still no where near Boston.
You know...James...just between us (and everyone else who reads this) you really should see someone about that opinion generator of yours.
Think of the mental noses James...is it too much to ask for a little mental deodorant on your part??
Also, by your old-school abbreviation, you must not be from here. CT can be a "New England" state (whatever that is supposed to mean...), but it is in the NYC area and NOT the Boston area. Try clicking on my link... Northerner.
Don't you know by now that everything on TV is political? The very nature of this particular blog is political. When it was assumed by Darren that the Patriots were our team in CT. He assumed that everyone was routing for them because they thought that it was our team.
The New Haven Register which is an 8 cohort, had a cover that read "Patriots win, Giants fall" or something like that. Why did it no say "Jets lose, Giants lose?" Or "Patriots win, Eagles win?" There is clear cut bias and a clear cut conspiracy to inject New England/Boston culture into CT in order to draw us away from NYC and towards far away Boston. NYC is too close and too big for us to want Boston. Boston is not a bad city, but it is no NYC and it is not near us.
I will not rest until 8 stops it's New England/Boston via Providence crusade against the NY/NJ/CT area!
WHen I catch you guys in your lies and point them out to you, all you do is start the name calling. Before you name call, you must search within in order to come to terms with the Boston/Providence based angle that you news channels works with.
Now if YOU at least got out around your own New Haven, you would realize that Boston/ Providence and even Hartford have no influence in that city. Only so-called News Channel 8 puts those angles in it's broadcasts. I guess you could consider me an investigative reporter - reporting on you.
This makes me wonder what is the impetus for your accusations James. Give us some specific examples of Channel 8's geographical behavior in reporting that are driving you bonkers.
I was actually addressing the sports on this blog. I am sure that when they do sports on 8 you see Boston sports. Not showing NY is a problem because when they tell NY news, they tell it from a California perspective, not from the perspective of a next door neighbor.
If you want proof, you can look at my other blogs, but I will give you a brief run down and you tell me if you notice these things and be honest.
They show a "New England" weather map for no reason at all. Is this CT news or New England news? Of course they have Boston sports coverage as if Boston is some how right around the corner, BUT NYC or even Long Island coverage is told from the perspective of these places being on the other side of the country!
8 often relies on second had reporting or pool reporting for NYC news. Why? They can drive right there get the news first hand. They go there when the UCONN plays at the Garden. Now contrast that with BS local news (not local to us mind you) in MA or RI - they SEND reporters to the scene! Why? Why do they send reporters to the scene of far away states and towns that no one ever heard of or cares what goes on in them? Why not send reporters on the scene for America's largest city?
I know, 8 will say that they cannot get on the scene or that the pool reporters are good enough, but what about pool reporters from MA or RI? I mean they report on RI or MA news that is not national and even the Hartford stations don't report on!
It is also clear that within CT, 8's primary focus is on the northern and eastern part of the state while having the southern and western parts take a back seat. Why? 8 is in New Haven. not Hartford, Boston or Providence. The station is owned by a company out of RI and that RI station has the exact same website as 8 does. It is no mystery why 8 NEVER mentions a tri-state area, treats NYC news as national news, treats RI/MA as local news, reports on Boston sports, does not talk about Long Island from time to time and even fixes it's TV ads to NOT say anything about NY/NJ/CT or tri-state, except for the Ford commercials. There is a clear conspiracy. Also when you look at the New Haven Register doing much the same, there can be no doubts. The sad part is, when I point these things out, all they do is smart talk or tell lies. You do the observing and figure it out for yourselves. 8 is anti-NYC and pro-New England/Boston.
That's good. All I ask of anyone is to watch for yourselves. All these years, 8 had hoped that no one noticed their schemes. All you have to do is watch and realize that you are being moved toward a certain point of view by 8. A point of view that some in Boston and Providence feels that CT should or must have. They want CT to not be concerned with NYC and only concerned ourselves with New England, which is also another way of saying Boston.
There is too much very clear and in your face evidence that shows this. Watch the commercials. On the NY/NJ channels, they will mention the tri-state area or NY/NJ/CT. On 8 and even the Hartford stations, the locations are changed to a Hartford point of view. You know, it will have CT towns AND MA towns! I don't know about you, but I live no where near MA. I don't know about there towns and since I am not around there I could care less.
Watch HOW 8 reports news. When a story DOES NOT have anything at all to do with New England, the inject the words "New England" into the story, almost as if they are brainwashing the viewers. When they do talk about NYC, they seem to always make sure that they compare whatever the story was to something that happened in Boston. Just watch and listen.
Aso, pay close attention to the start of their news at 5pm. See what towns that they lead the news off with, then turn it to the Hartford stations and watch them lead the news with New Haven or Bridgeport. 8 lead off with Hartford or some town no one ever heard of. They do this even when something exciting happens in their own New Haven.
Just watch how many stories are from northern and eastern CT versus southern and western CT. Then ask yourself does this make sense? How can a small town that no one ever heard of be a lead story versus something in a more popular city? Then when they cross state lines, they seem to know only two directions - north and east. Never west and south. I can't even recall the last time 8 was in any part of NY state, let alone the city. I do recall the many perplexing stories they went to RI for. I am not just talking about the over done nightclub fire that made national news - then was done, but a fire and a (their) local bridge demolition? They do all of this whil right over our other border(the border that surround most of CT in case you have not noticed) in NY, NATIONAL events are taking place every week or so. They never go. Even in Westchester County, where there news often involves events in CT, they never show up. It is clear my friend.
8 never addressed these issues, point for point, they only deny it all, but they continue to do it. You watch and you be the judge. I urge others to do the same.
If you want NYC-specific news, may I suggest watching a NYC station? If you live in the New Haven area NYC stations are included in your cable lineup.
Let's face it, if you wanted to go to NYC, you wouldn't get on plane headed for New Haven.
And please stop making those generalizations that "no one" ever heard of towns in CT like they don't exist or that EVERYONE in CT likes certain things. Unless you have a microchip in everyones heads and know their thoughts likes, dislikes and geographical make-up,stop talking like you are the Head of the Public at Large.
Everone that reads this blog knows you don't like WTNH and that you think that it is your sole responsiblity in life to put them in their place but you personally are not going to sway me away from watching or reading what the people of WTNH say. I enjoy WTNH for all they say and do and I hope others feel the same way.
I guess you do not get my points. This is not about wanting NYC oriented news because as you wrote, I can just tune into a NYC channel and watch that, just as I should tune into a Hartford news channel and watch Hartford as well as the same for New Haven.
This is about 8's concerted efforts to block out NYC IN FAVOR OF Boston/RI/New England oriented news or at least declaration of that particular point of view. They do all of that WHILE LEAVING OUT the NYC/Tri-state ("...For which CT is a part of..." - John Destaphano, New Haven Mayor) and making it appear as if that is another region that has nothing to do with CT. THAT is the key issue.
Just read all of my points above and watch for yourself.
Laurie:
Maybe I should not insult those towns, but you have to admit that a lot of the news that 8 reports on are from towns that no one outside of those areas have ever heard of.
Also, everyone generalizes. Statistics are generalizations. So are polls(!), 8's assumptions that CT is Red Sox nation, whenever you make a comment about someone or something, or anything that you say are generalizations.
In college, professors also told me not to make generalizations, but I always had to tell them that we all do. There is no escaping this. You SHOULD know that all news from the start is biased and controlled by powerful people. Most news that you see is not produced by the channel that you are watching. The wording is not that of the anchor. News is censored and heavily edited from it's original format. You are TOLD (through brainwashing) what you had better like or what you should think about anything. Most people assume that when they see something on TV, it is true. People like me point out the truth and help assist news channels into either covering everything, or to stop being bias against one point of view that their mother corporation does not wish to promote for CT.
The short version -- be nice and be respectful of other's opinions, even if they don't agree with yours, or your comment may be deleted.
