Where Is The Justice
The Super Bowl's come and gone, the Olympics are under way and the Vice President shot a guy. Big stories, but I'd like to revisit an old story that never had any follow-up.
I know it happened a long time ago, but I can't stop thinking about the teacher in the Pittsburgh area who made one of his students take his mid-term exam sitting on the floor while other students peppered him with crumpled pieces of paper from their desks.
If you missed it, teacher John Kelly thought he'd make an example of one of his students.
The young man had the audacity to wear a Bronco jersey to school a few days before the hometown Steelers were to play Denver in the AFC Championship game. Kelly said he was just kidding - it was part of the lesson.
A good lesson for Kelly would have him serve as a tackling dummy for the Broncos next year.
That's not gonna happen. Apparently nothing is going to happen.
I spoke with a reporter at the Pittsburgh Post Gazette Newspaper. He told me Kelly is not being punished and nobody is giving any explanation why.
Inherent in any teaching job is power. Power to educate, to discipline, and in this case, power to humiliate a youngster. The young man forced to the floor said he sat there shaking and so humiliated that he's transferred to another area high school.
Kelly, who is reportedly a popular teacher at the school, not only got no punishment, he got to see his beloved Steelers win the big game.
I wasn't there. I only know what I've read.
If that's what happened something has to be done to this Mr. Kelly. Maybe making him serve as Broncos tackling dummy is too harsh, but at the very least keep him away from young people.

My hope is that many outraged Letters to the Editor and/or the Superintendent of Schools in that town were sent. That child will have a lot of issues come later in life.
